You are going to be sooooooooo impressed with all my hard work today :laugh: Springs finally in and on the side stand. The long spring at the back was the one giving me all the grief as I couldn't find one the right size. Bugger was that this one was to long. No dramas, bit of cutting and bending and hey presto she fits sweet as. Least my bike will stand up now!

i have 4 z1r's and have never seen a kickstand like that. :ohmy:

Haha I know its an odd setup! This was how the German domestic models came out with the forward mounted stand and double spring. Also had a engine stop on the side stand as well. They wouldn't start if the stand was down. Couple of crap photos but you can kind of see how the stand is mounted. Even have to have a weird bent over gear lever to accommodate the stand set up.

What did we do before phones with cameras! I would be so buggered trying to remember where all the bits n bobs fit back in without the before photos. Probably why I always had bits left over when I used to build bikes pre digital camera! :blush: On a great note though the clocks are now officially attached to the bike, whaaaa farking hooooooooooooo!

My small tank is nearly ready for painting. Had a few issues with rust that needed to be sorted out but I really wanted the bike to have the first style of tank. They might not hold much gas but man they look cool!! Tank is looking absolutely spot on but......................................yep the big but. My mate that did the panel work noticed that the side of the tank has the flush bit at the bottom and thought it was a defect and fixed it. So now the tank has a nice edge all the way round. To be honest I think it will look better for it but bit bummed as that was an original molding of the early tanks. Such as life though. Circled bit is the bit I am whinging about that I don't have any more.

Digging through the boxes and found the old loom and switch gear. Loom is pretty old now and chopped up in a few places. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, possibly thinking about a new one. We'll see................ Left switch gear is the one that I got from Rimbin and I will restore it as it has the turn signal turny off bit in it and is a "quintessential" part that makes a Z1R (in my opinion anyways). The right is one I got in a box of bits with the frame when I bought it but it looks like it has seen better days. Thinking it will be retired and will order a repop one to replace it.







Not sure how the heck I am going to repaint the words but hey, we'll figure it out.



The heart of the beast, indicators won't turn off without this bad boy. Hope it still works!


Hit the glass blaster again as well and prepped some brackets n bits for zincing/powder coating. Forgot to take a good photo but you can see the right switch blocks at the top all blasted and ready for painting.

Got the seat pan back from being sand blasted and can now see the damage and cracks more clearly. Not as bad as I thought it would be but still a little delicate for my rough as guts welding so i am going to drop it off at my mate the engineers to get sorted. After that she's off to recovered! Exciting!

Baby steps at the moment lol! :laugh: First parts of the seat powder coated, the tabs that slot the seat in at the front. Jim at Redline hooked me up with a new seat of rubbers for them too. Just need the rest of the seat to be finished now. Better pull finger!

I sand-blasted my switch housings and then painted them. After a good drying spell I used model paint with a tiny needle to drop small amounts of paint into the grooves of the lettering. If I got any with too much paint in them, I took a rag with a dampened varsol spot on it and wiped the top gently, worked great.
