Dad and daughter build
18 Apr 2016 08:04
Hey guys,
We just finished our first build this week. Things came out pretty smooth and I think we created a nice blend of cafe-rat racer.
Puchased a 1979 kz400 for $800 running and starting. All of the basics were there we just needed to show it some love.
We stripped the bike down to just the motor on the frame. We wanted to keep the motor in because we weren't looking to polish anything..
No issues at all, not even a sticky bolt or nut. Everything was removed with care and labeled for storage.
chopped about six inches off of the rear and bent and welded some stainless tubing in place for the rear kick. My daughter is quite the artist so she had researched some of the design Ques that helped us measure for the new look.
Handlebars replaced with clip on's as well as all new brake and clutch levers. An aluminum rear fairing and seat pan from Pete Sykes in Pennsylvania. ( this guy was fantastic and took a lot of extra time to help with the mach up and mounting.)
All of the white was painted and checkering was done by hand and the whole thing was clear coated with SPRAYMAX2k ( i cant say enough about this clear coat. By far the best you can get without owning all the painting gear.)
So anyway, here she sits. Still needs an exhaust but Im going to wait till after the inspection in may.
Let me know what you think and if you have any advice or issues you think I should address.
I also have all of the parts that were removed so If anybody needs anything feel free to ask
Peace

Have you ridden it with the pod filters yet? The carbs can be a real pain to dial in correctly with them

Nice project.
The mirrors look like they may not work so well, unless your able to see under your arms.
The tail light either seems to be missing, or is well hidden.

What a great looking project you two did. Well done!
Nice and clean looking, and retro too. Tough to beat that.
