Very nice fish looks a beauty! Glad the tank is so clean, dealing with that myself on my new tank I can tell you how nice and lucky it is for one to be so spotless, congrats ;) As for the tires you can do what you want but I used to be a tire tech and for your own safety I urge you not to our miles on those. While they may not be dry rotted and hold air the rubber and compounds have certainly degraded and there is stuff that you can't visually see with your eyes that may be a danger, those sidewalls heating up as you ride and the forces out on them could develop a dangerous situation fast without being aware. Not trying to be a wet blanket just want to keep a fellow rider and KZR member alive and well my friend ;)

Enjoy the fishing and hope that crisp air is as refreshing as it looks!

I had a 15 year new/old tire I put on in 13. Within 500 miles it started coming apart at the tread. I replaced it of course. That's how I found the Shinko's. B)

Hello all, so I go through the carbs. The two brass bars a check valves for the accel pump and the go in bowls 1 and 4. 2 and 3 have these held with a cir clip. No sure if I am missing them or not. Anyway I figured I would hook up aux gas and see if she'll run. When I connected the battery I got an immediate constant arc and a bit heat and smolder from the reg/rectified aea. Only about 2 seconds. The wires were warm to the touch and the reg/rec plug was warm, I disconnected the reg/rec and the battery would not fault. I had instrument, starter, lights and turns without excessive draw. No ignition without the reg/rec. I am guessing the reg/rec is bad. Anyone have this experience? I am unsure if I need a full loom or just the reg/rec. I suppose there could be several problems. I don't want to burn up a new one. Manual coming soon, tester ready. R

Did you go to jetsrus to see the exploded view of your carbs? Pics of your Reg/Rect and wiring going to it?

I looked a couple different pics. Clear the ball goes in pump galley, but those rods I found by looking at all the bowls. Here's some pics of the wiring. Not much to go on there. It is puzzling that it all works with reg/rec disconnected. Cranks lights instruments etc. Perhaps it is just the reg rec? R

That doesn't look bad. Typically you have the connectors going to the Reg/Rec and one white/red wire going to the battery at a double bullet connector. The other white/red wire goes to the fuse/ fuse box. That powers the coils, lights, etc.

Yeah, it's not to bad. Some old brittle stuff. I am gonna trace thru ad see what I can find. Not sure if that reg/rec is toasted or not. I think the manual has some testing procedures. I may have a stray chaffed wire, but systems were powered without the unit connected. It has to be something close to that/ I'll pull out the battery box and check for something pinched or broken. More to come. This one is gonna take a while. cash is low for the next few weeks too, so I am hesitant to to much cosmetic until I can hear it run. R

Also the arc was immediate, no key on, just right when I tried to hook the battery up. Then disconnect the rec/reg and not short and all lights and starter were working. mmmmm Someone smarter than I has to know what this is. My guess is reg/rec burnt a long time ago. But if the PO epoxied carb top who knows if something is cobbled up. It would seem the rec/reg circuit is bad or grounded to fault. R

That's possible but I don't see any burnt connectors. Mine have gotten hot and you can tell by looking.

Well after the few cranks of the starter yesterday, there was some oil leaking from the motor. Haven't had a good look but appears to be from filter cover area. PO probably epoxied the oring :S About a 1/4 cup on the garage floor this morning. Maybe April Fools was a bad day to buy an antique. hahaha.

Given my electric issues, I will post there too, perhaps a longer build here is in process. Will scope out this leak a little better, but I am feeling like engine out and full refurbishment may be in order. While the motor is out dis assembly and electric hunting may be a tad easier. Anyway there is officially no time frame anyway. That's why i am doing this in the first place. R
