A little help
10 Jan 2016 19:32
Hey everyone, new to the site. Have my eye on a 1983 kz750. First, let me say I have never owned a bike or worked on engines. I really want to commit to this and have the time. The bike that's for sale comes with two frames and two engines, 1 title. So basically 1 full bike and a parts bike. I would love to hear any advice and how to start, what's needed. Am I completely nuts? I would love my two boys to see that their dad can complete something of this magnitude. So any advice on what to do is appreciated.

Welcome to the forums STB. Lots of very helpful and knowledgable members here. The first thing you'll wanna get(if not already) is a service manual for your bike. I'm not sure which particular one is recommended other than be advised to stay away from the Haynes version as it won't be too helpful for you.
More info on the titled bike would be good too, like does it run, kind of condition is it currently in good or bad, that'll help us help you better and easier without too much guess work. I'm sure a more knowledgable member of your KZ will chime in with better info.
OH and we all like pictures here
post'em if you got'em.

I'm pretty new here too and as far as I can tell it's basically a bike porn site with a tech support desk. Post lots of pics (of bikes, the dirtier the better) and ask questions about your technique, whether you are doing this that or the other thing correctly and you get all kinds of expert advice on how to improve your ummm, performance.

Thanks so much guys! Will be making a decision this coming week. It's between the 83 kz750 that's completely apart or 74 Honda ch550 that's basically together.

13 Jan 2016 02:27Do you already know how to ride? If not, I would get a good running motorcycle, something small & cheap to learn on.By STB: Hey everyone, new to the site. Have my eye on a 1983 kz750. First, let me say I have never owned a bike or worked on engines. .....

I was also leaning towards the 750 BUT, if you've never ridden a MC before, I'd start out w/ something smaller for reasons already stated

Larry's first bike was the 74 Z1. He was sucking up to Jim our boss that had the 73. One day he came to work with a new Kirker and handle bars. He was so short he had to tip toe when he stopped. Got some aftermarket shocks, that helped, not much though. He was a lousy rider.
