2001 kz1000p Bagger project

30 Sep 2015 05:52 - 30 Sep 2015 06:45
#692591
So thought I would post up my newly acquired 2001 kz1000p . Got it from a friend not running had been sitting for sometime but after a good tune up it seems it was all she needed.

Looking to go with a custom Bagger look nothing like a kawi Bagger to make a Harley question what the hell it is .

Looking to add
Rear seat
Rear Lowering shocks / possible air shocks
Bigger bags
Remove chrome
Wrap bike blue or charcoal color
Modify windshield possible 2 or 3 inch off the fairing
Speakers radio
HiD's

Nice. Welcome to the forum. I have a '01 KZP as well. One thing I have learned is EVERYTHING is worn out and should be looked at.
carb boots, seals, gaskets, chain, brakes, etc.
How many miles?

Thanks for the warm welcome . Currently bike has 70k miles on it and when checking over everything it actually seemed in great condition didn't think It would but the family I bought it from had all of there bikes in immactuate condition besides this one not running lol .

Did do a full carb rebuild and had to replace the start clutch springs , so far .

Still learning about the bike but any recomedation on aftermarket or upgrade parts ?
Also need to figure out a rear seat and peg setup.

I went with a K&N filter and up a size on the pilots and the main. Doing a valve adjustment right now. For upgrades I am going to a 530 chain with taller gears, stainless brake lines and complete brake rebuild. Probably need to stiffen up the suspension on both ends as well.
I replaced the "pursuit" lights with pencil beams that really do a good job of reaching out.
That's it until I get some miles on it. These are really fun bikes to ride.

I was defiantly surprised how well they ride I went from a 07 gsxr 750 and thought this would be a tank but once you get going it doesn't feel that way at all .

Lights are on the top of the list to replace I really hate the big bulking turn signal circles on every end of the bike and the huge brake light ...I plan to keep the flashers as long as I can find a flush mount led .

Yeah, were those flashers added later? Mine are more of the stock Kawasaki style.

I'm leaning towards keeping mine fairly stock looking. I have too many other projects going on... Although I love what KiwiKZP is doing.

I'd keep it stock too if it's in good shape. To me, cop bikes look too cool to change, plus you'll never see another one riding around. Ed

I think mine are the actual cop flasher that were never taken off the bike to be replaced with the kawi one.

Just got the rear shocks this weekend and some wrap color choices originally was planning on going with a blue but feel like a charcoal will do really well.

I like the clear strobes on the sides of the fairing. Nice if someone is Fing with you at night.
