Can a Z1300 engine fit into a KZP?

27 Sep 2015 22:37

I've got a few unfinished projects due to arrive next week to see me through the winter, including 3 x KZP's and a Z1300 engine & frame.
Has anyone ever tried to, or does anyone know if it is possible to squeeze a Z1300 engine into a KZP frame?

Here is my daily ride that I toured around Europe on this year.

Sure, all it takes is commitment, time, engineering skills, and lots of money. I figure if a guy can squeeze a V12 Lamborghini engine into a bike (see below) almost anything is possible ;) Ed

Hmmm... if they paint that thing to look like the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile, it could be the Weeny Cycle.

Can it be done.. probably. The 1300 mil is probably too tall to fit inside the frame, that might be the most difficult part to contend with. Its a shaft drive, and I doubt a 1300 swing arm would fit on 1000 frame. Everything about the 1300 is big...

I'm sure it can be done, I just don't know why it would be worth all trouble. You could build a 4 cylinder with just as much power...

Here is an idea of what you are up against.

The width of the entire drivetrain will be too wide without performing major surgery to the frame. Even a shaft drive Kz1000 has a pivot width of about 2" wider to allow room for the driveshaft and yoke. Then you may have interference issues with the #2 and #5 exhaust tubes and the frame down tubes. Then mounting the radiator, etc etc.

Thanks Doug, that's the answers I was looking for.
I've had Kawasaki's since I was 12 years old but I've never managed to get my hands on the six-pot until now.
I've always fancied the idea of building a Z1300 chopper, but never wanted to cannibalise a good one.
Now I've got a Z1300 frame & engine amongst a deal on 3 x KZP's on it's way to me, so who knows, I might have that chopper done over the winter.
Cheers.

Seems like it would be easier to move the bags and fairing from the KZP to the 1300 frame...

ACK! Inline 4 choppers look like snot (no matter how it is done, the motor choice is wrong) chops are supposed to be long low and lean, a 4 cylinder kaw motor is wide, the six is definately gonna look way out of place.

Why make something it is made for into something it's not? These things are made with power but not enough suspension to use it fully. The upgrade mods here are going in the right direction, making a 'Chopper" out of them seems to me to be going in the wrong direction for the wrong reasons. I guess you could pull a trailer with it.
