I may be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time), but I suspect the reason many bob/chop guys bail is because they don't develop a plan before they start modding their bikes and end up with projects they cannot complete. They then scrap, part out, or sell the bikes, and so have no reason to visit this site. Remember the recent guy in Norway who cut up the ELR and broke the engine, or Joe (Stu Pidasole)'s KZ1000 project, or Ultimate Fighter' ultimate destruction of a KZ650? Those are just a few I remember.
I'm not suggesting that everyone who mods a bike gives up. I would guess the vast majority of folks on this site have bikes that have been modded to some degree. In fact, some take broken bikes that haven't been ridden for years and get them on the road again - I salute them. It seems to me that most of the guys who are successful at getting their bikes rolling again don't bail out of KZR while they still own their bikes. Hopefully the OP will be successful at getting his running well; I don't believe anyone on this site wishes him bad luck. Ed

I agree with most of this sentiment. Leon, you said something on here once like, "If well all liked the same stuff it would be a boring world"
One of the best professors i had in college would do this thing were if you asked him for advice on how to go about making something or whatever, he would tell you in detail how you might possibly achieve it. If he didn't think that it was the best idea, or the correct way, or that you were wasting your time; he would then tell you that too, but he always started off telling you how you MIGHT attempt it. Some things you really need to just learn for yourself. I know it sucks to see people "destroy" something you like in an attempt to make it better in their eyes, but thats how people learn.You think any of the guys that designed these bikes in the first place didn't have some failures? I think there are many ways to guide new comers who are excited without turning them away.

lets hope he sorted his problems and is in the wind.
some of the guys that leave from here end up in other forums that are more accepting of there particular set of modifications.
i.e. custom fighters chopcult etc.
where those members help them along to finish there build.
forums are only as valuable as the members that add to them.

If new members find better info on more specialist chop forums then that is probably inevitable, not that we are too snooty here to help. It pains me every time a nice late 550 or 750 twinshock pops up to be turned into a rubbishy café racer - again, each to their own. I still help if I can.
People have been telling me the last quarter of a century that a bike will never run 'right' on pods, we agree to disagree, no probs

A good buddy of mine spend 2 years cutting up a pristine KZ440 into a bobber/hardtail.
After all this, he rode it maybe half a dozen times because it is dangerous on any road outside of a parking lot.
