Youre right Leon. Of course. Harris also do one, (I think the' Magnum') but I reckon that these frames are a lot beefier than the standard KZ.
From working on mine,I know the frame tubes are thin as paper. Then again, the engine casing probably would be stronger!!

A very substantial backbone to the Egli frame though, so the motor is acting more as triangulation than a fully stressed member.

A very interesting build. I'm interested to see where it goes, currently it's like thinking out loud with pictures - great stuff.

1978 KZ1000A2 Wiseco 1075 kit
1977 KZ650B1
1973 Triumph Tiger TR7V
1968 BSA Victor Special 441
2015 Triumph Thunderbird LT
1980 Suzuki SP400

Old enough to know better, still too young to care

Leon, thanks for the pics of the Egli....almost forgot about those things. We considered building an Egli frame at first and decided it was not necessary, triangulated tubing is just as good as the oversized center tube if done correctly, plus I have the advantage of modern suspension components. And at least I dont have to worry about lateral forces off the engine like the Guzzi guys.

Thought before I posted the new progress I would post some rather old pictures of what this bike is modeled after. The bike in the pictures was built by my father in the late 70s, before mono shock suspension was on road bikes, and utilizes the same basic frame design. The bike was incredibly fast, even by today's standards. Sorry the pics are a little blurry but this was before digital crap.

I am splitting the next posts up in order to fit it all in. Bike was broken down for frame clean up and re-weld for stress points and frame bracing. Now the bike is going back together to check for final fitment and refinement of some of the places we just stuck together to get an idea of where we wanted things.

do you have any plans to re-enforce it against vibration induced cracking?
