Sooooo, I decided to spend an hour on my project and started to clean up the tail end.
Removed bits and pieces and part of the loom.
Just as well! Found some back yard wiring attempts. Fortunately I have decided to replace/re wire the whole loom.

And I carried on. Cleaning up the back end. Will replace the seat with a custom floating seat!
Some more cleaning up to do and then cosmetic welding to be done.
In the mean time, my grinder packed up so the wify went to go get a new one......coffee break

And so we continue discovering gremlins!
Yesterday removed the swing arm to discover a broken bracket....
Removed the header pipe....no spacer and clearly sloppy work.
At least the rear break caliper seems in a half decent condition.

Shame, looks beyond repair. The zx GPz unitrack swing arms seem pretty cheap and not too hard to find.

I think that maybe the POs terrible welding. you can see the factory weld right next to it, plus the brace that is not factory in the bottom of the photo has the same booger welds on it.

+1. I don't think you'll find factory welds that bad on a KZ. At least, I've never seen it. Ed

Wow this build thread is making me feel much better about the gremlins I found on my bike. Looking forward to seeing how things progress

Yup... looks like an amateur stick welding job, wrong rod or wrong current/heat.
