The project bike that didn’t really deliver GPZ750

So my buddy Erik got totally hooked when he took my garage find for a spin after fitting the new tyres. Erik called me and said.
- This is it, this is what’s fun with having a bike, being able to fix it yourself, crappy handling and no BREAKS! - My BMW K1300S may have 180hp and killer breaks, but it has no soul!

I have to find myself my own project bike!

So Erik started chasing possible project bike, almost nicked a Z1000R in a decent condition with a bust starter, the case continued and then Saturday two weeks ago this showed up.



Gpz750R1 – 82 with 10.000 km on the meter!

Erik was in his car within minutes and heading to Linköping some 300km away.

It turned out that a guy had bought it in 82 and shortly after fell sick and passed away before he was able to clock more than 5000km, then the bike was left in some relatives garage until last year when it was sold to a guy that clocked the other 500km last year.
The bike is not mint, but pretty darn close, there are some small rust pimples on the original headers and muffler, except for that it’s absolutely frecking NEW!

Of course it needed some love, and the carbs was given the royal treat.










But with so few meters on the clock there was not much grit in them, but it needed a sync and then it ran like a charm.

I pitch in some pix so that you can see what condition the bike is in.

















Basically spot less with all the safety stickers still in place.
So Erik is back where he started, he need something to work with this winter, because there is no way that we will customize this find. It will be saved for the long summer nights.

B) Erik did'nt spare a second, he set off in an instant when the add appered and yes it was the one that flashed on Blocket two weeks ago.

I'm drooling just looking at this bike. Absolutely love it! How does he like the bike so far?

On thing I would check is the date codes on the tyres. If they are older than 4 or 5 years I would change them out no matter how mint they look on the outside. Wouldn't want a blow out when going 120 km on the highway due to rotted tyres.

Nice find, those GPz750R1 twin shocks are very good with great styling, handling and a strong motor: like a kz650 on steroids. That one looks the nicest example I've seen so far.

Erik got a smile that will send him to the loony ward within weeks. I even start to have doubts myself, because the guy has been dismantling the bike just to wipe it clean.

The tires were ok, tire dates was the first thing we checked as soon as we stopped “Fanboying” :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: about the bike. They were fitted last year so Erik can focus on spending his cash on wax and polish. :laugh:

That's a beautiful bike!

Make sure you guys take care of the basic maintenance. Valve adjustment and flush the brake fluid and/or do a full tear down if the fluid is brown and chunky,

No reason to worry, B) Erik bought it to have something to tinker with as his BMW K1300S deprive him of that joy. Last time we talked he wanted my new fork seals as he wanted to tear down the fork, just for the therapy! :laugh:

Generally when projects of mine "didn't deliver", that means that they fucked beyond all hope of running again.
