Tore up the title? What kind of story is that? Maybe the guy really did, but I'd have to think to tear up a title like that you have got to be chemically assisted or something

That's my next step. Go to the CHP and run the plate and VIN. He told me his wife got everything and he is moving back east. He's on dissability and she doesn't want him anymore. It might be a case of if I can't have it no one can kind of thing. That may be why he wanted to sell it parts only. WAAH. :P If it's stolen, I've got his cell#, address, copies of his CL ad and his statement. If it goes bad, all I've lost is $100 in fuel and time. We'll see.

If it is stolen, you get to charge the actual owner a recovery/collection fee. And a tidy one at that!
Especially if there was an insurance claim made.
You probably will get to keep it for a very small amount of salvage value.

I'm a retired auto claims and total loss adjuster from two of the BIG Three....and have seen it all.....

I just talked to SO dispatch and it came back clean. Plate is good and the vin matched. :woohoo: My neighbor offered $600 for it. I think I'll go for it, besides, it will kinda still be in the family. :)

If your bill of sale is also notarized, you might be able to get the local sheriff to issue a vehicle inspection and with a VIN check being clean... just apply for the title!!
Sounds like a great deal to me... $600.... too cheap in my book unless you are doing nothing to it.
I'd buy it if local with a title!

The way it works in the Socialist State of Californicate, They go back 3 years. Fees and penalties can be $600. CHP gets half. Being it has no plate, sold parts only. I think it can be a salvage title. That means under $200 to get it legal. :) All i"ll do is sync the carbs and let it go. B) He wants to pay me to put in fork seals and mount a rear tire. I'll make more money that way. I've been thinking of wrenching again on a small scale, so this might be a start. I'm also trolling for more fish.

My daughter and granddaughter came for a visit. Guess what Kayla did the first thing.

Yup, like a moth to a flame. Too bad I have to sell it. I forgot it has 6 gears. I DON'T HAVE 6 GEARS. I'm impressed. Took her for a ride up the street. :woohoo:

I like it. Miss trees on the mountains though. That car was the best investment I ever made. My granddaughter an mommy can come see grandpa any time they want. :)

I just listed it in the Palm Springs Craig's List. The guy that wanted to buy it said he could pay by Wednesday but offered me $150. I told him I needed to sell it this week. Yesterday he came by and got the plate and Vin saying AAA wants a signature from the owner. I have a signed release from him and the deal was with no title. He may be planning on paying the fees or transfer before paying me for the bike. In my ad I say I'm taking offers. No price listed. I'll tell him what I've done this morning and he is the first offer but the one that comes up with the money gets it.

Well two days later I finally talked to him. SOS, he'll have to pay fees etc. I told him I listed and have other offers, so if he can't come up with the money, I'll have people looking at it. Now the games begin.
