Nice OMR, can't wait to pick up my 74 Z1 this summer, has the stock 4 into 2 in perfect condition. Unfortunately, no air box. I don't know if I should restore it of flip it.

@ Kaw-a.... Being a '74 Z1..... No brainer, Restore and keep her for awhile.
A clean build these days is fetching $10k plus.... Can only imagine what she'll fetch in 10 years.
BTW... I have the '78 KZ-1000 air box, not sure if the same on the KZ900 but would think they are.... You can have if you want it.... PM a phone number if interested.
OK, these carbs are toast.... Been soaking in penetrating oil for 2 days now and slides are still stuck in closed position.
So need to find a good set of 26mm's for this KZ. I alreayd have a set of 26mm from a '78 KZ 1000 (pilots on bottom) but doesn't match the 26mm for the '76 KZ900 (pilots on top).
So e-mail sent to Brian otherwise off to e-bay I go....
Thanks for the replys all....

Try carb and choke cleaner. Spray in the top and the bottom. There's a clear coating that might come off but new slides are available at jetsrus.

OMR, why not give it one more shot and boil it in a diluted bath of lemon juice. I purchased a big pot from the good will and cooked them outside on the bbq side burner. Don't have to worry about diaphragms. Nothing to lose.

killer score omr!
i agree that a boiling hot bath might help free the slides.

Don't buy any used carbs yet.
Remove the caps off the top of the carbs and pour boiling water and lemon juice mix in the top of the carb where the the arms are.
Do it over a tub so you can drop them in it and let it soak,
Then if still stuck, go get a gallon of generic acetone and automatic transmission fluid.
Mix it about 3 parts acetone to one part tranny fluid.
Actually maybe just do this in the first place!
Soak the bodies in that for a while and they will come loose, especially if you pull the throttle and choke control shafts all the way out and remove the carb bodies from the carb mounting assembly plate.
I've never had a carb that I could not get the slide loose on and I've had some real GRONKS that lived outside, along side garages and in fields for years!!
