Thanks Patton. Are those carbs worth fooling with or is there another factory set that can be had that makes a nice bolt on upgrade ?

28 pumpers came on the 80 ltds, also could try some earlier z1 28s (or just give those to me)
But honestly any 28 mikunis that came on a 900 or 1000 would be an upgrade

I wetsand the plastic parts to remove the old paint. I start with 320 grit and get finer from there. Use the best 3M wet/dry paper, lots of water and do all of the sanding by hand. If you take your time you can remove all of the paint and not change the shape of the parts at all.

Reportedly --
The smaller 26mm mikuni carb on KZ900 was an effort to increase improved mid range performance. With a few less horse power, the 26mm produced a more refined ride, had improved chokes and linkages, and connecting the four slides gave smoother throttle response.
The 26mm is imo one of the most user-friendly carbs, easy to tune and maintain, and provides excellent drive-ability.
Better yet, its design isn't compromised by the EPA requirements that appeared soon thereafter.
Good Fortune!

Mine has VM26 pumpers on my 80 KZ1000 Ltd and I believe them to be original to the bike.

315.00 for a registration and tag. Then somewhere along the way I'll have to convert over to ohio title and registration. I may have to send this bike on ots way as a parts bike and look for a better deal on another kz. I'm already 750.00 into this bike and I don't have it running.
