Saved another old KZ
20 Aug 2013 08:46
Been several years since I've been able to play with bikes but I'm back in the game for now. I scored this old what I think is a 77 kz 1000. The date on the manufactures tag reads 10-77, the vin is KZT00A-509488. So do you guys think this is a 77 kz 1000 ? I haven't got the paperwork or key for the bike because the owner is out of town but I'll have everything shortly. I played around polishing the chrome and the bike is going to clean up nice for a driver. It'll need a paint job. The odometer reads 6014 miles. The owner said its been in storage since 1980. Who is a good parts supplier for this old girl ?

The frame VIN says it is a 1978 KZ1000A2 model. Trapezoidal front brake reservoir screams 1978. Missing the grab bar and the PO replaced the original seat with a B model seat. Nice find.
Two recommended parts suppliers I have personal positive experience with are:
Z1Parts.net
Z1Enterprises.com

Wow nice find!
In England but www.zed-parts.com have been really helpful to me.
The owner, Oz, rides a Z1300 and Deb, his wife and co-owner rides a KZ1100 Spectre.
Keep us up to date with how you get on.

I thought the left side pipe was a little strange. All the 4 into 1 pipes I've been around we're right side exit. The tank is gonna have to be sent out for a clean out. And the side covers and fenders will need stripped and painted. How do you guys go about stripping the plastic parts without destroying them ?

Perhaps brake fluid to remove paint from the side covers --

I found the frame numbers listed on z1enterprises , however I'm not seeing my number anywhere in their listing. Any ideas on where to look for my frame numbers ?
