My 1978 KZ650C re-build after crash

Late last year I tore down my 78 KZ650C to re-build it after my crash of 2011. I figured I would do a thread on it so here goes.

Before

New frame, thanks to Mark Wing. I cut off all tabs I was not going to use and welded up mounting tabs for the GPZ750 oil cooler I will install. I then sent to the powder coaters for a white paint job.

I re-designed the rearsets by adding bolts through the passenger peg holes and welding them on the inside of the frame. This way I can screw the aluminum footpegs onto the bolts.

Here are the rearsets I fabbed up using my lather and aluminum bits.

While waiting for the frame to get back I located an original Giullirio seat from Ebay UK, (think I spelled that wrong.) The seat pan was really rusted out. I sand blasted it then applied the POR-15 paint on it. Sent it to the local upholstery shop where the guy saved the back portion of the seat reupholstered it. Came out really nice, looks brand new.
Before

After

Frame back from powder coaters.

Starting assembly

I will keep posting on my progress as I get more work done.

An RC pipe B) I stepped foot in the shop back in the day. Had them drill my front disk. Your project is looking good. Keeping an eye on this one.

Looking real good Paul. My frame was white at one time and people always asked if it was custom. Keep the pix coming.

I am re-using the rear shocks, front forks, engine, had to replace the stator cover, wheels, rearsets, swingarm, brakes. After I tore it down I discovered the only items I needed were the frame, body work, lighting and the fork brace.
