I intercepted my buddy when he was on the way to the dump with this Quad. Its a 1987 Kawasaki Bayou 300. I know I should have just let him go with it, but I needed something to get me through the rest of winter now that the KZ is done. I'm not even going to try and make it pretty, just get it running well and give it to my daughter to use on her farm.
The KZ is completed and tucked away for spring, it now has a new seat, I just can't take any pictures where it is now.

Yeh... pretty much any shaftie motor would be easy to graft in there!

Yeah it all starts out as a simple project, next thing you know youre building a big bore motor for it and powder coating /plating everything on it.
Then youll be afraid to turn it loose on the farm! :woohoo:

Nah... Not this time! I know how things go on the farm. Paint the frame with a brush, fix the plastics, new piston and valves, a couple dozen other little things and let 'er go. I just need something to keep me busy 'till I get the KZ on the road for the first time come April.

I don't really have a thread on the Shaftie rebuild. I bought it last spring for $700, stripped it down to the frame. Pretty much every part on the bike has been cleaned, powdercoated or polished or painted. It has a fresh Wiseco 1045 kit and I also added a pair of Kenny Harman 380 cams. I think of it as completed, but we all know when it gets ridden there will be some other tuning or whatever issues to fiddle with. I can't wait! I have not ridden a KZ since my 78 Z1R back in 1982.

Thanks for the compliments guy's. I didn't really intend to redo the whole bike. When I bought it I was just going to get it running and ride it. The guy I bought it from had "cleaned it up" by using a black rattle can on everything and a scuff pad to take the oxidation of the aluminium. There was overspray and drips everywhere and the engine covers were scratched to L. The bike could be started but would not take any throttle at all without dying.I enjoyed working on the KZ, its a simple easy to work on bike that really takes you back in time.
