I figured it was time to start a project thread since I have had to post questions into several different categories.

My bike has been progressing well but is in a bunch of pieces right now...

can anyone tell me what wires these are in the picture? They were inside the left side cover.

I have the wiring diagram but still can not tell.

Thanks

Mike

Blue/white may be an unused accessory lead.

Question about the red wire with white stripe -- does the pictured section continue from a long section of the same color, or is it added to a long section of a different color.

Red/white may be battery positive.

Would use a voltmeter to check each wire with igntion switch OFF, and again with ignition switch ON.

You could open up the handlebar switch assy & check the horn button stuff... maybe there's corrosion?

all has been replaced because the original was corroded and all in there is in good working order...

also,
my indicator panel is still operating backwards. for example when my left turn signal is on the right indicator blinks and the opposite for the left one.
the highbeam is lit up when the low beam is on and is off when the highbeam is on.

the neutral light works

Thanks,

Mike

The horn itself has two terminals for connecting wires.

Should be two wires to the horn, each wire to one of the two horn terminals.

The brown wire is supposed to furnish battery positive when ignition switch is ON.

The other wire goes to the horn button. Pressing the horn button allows such non-brown wire to reach ground, thereby completing the circuit through the horn, which produces the earth-shattering toot.

The terminals on the horn itself are probably non-polar, whereby either wire may be connected to either terminal.

Good Fortune! :)

Carb question:

I have the VM24SS carbs and just upgraded the jets to 112.5 and the pilot jet to 18.5 also added pod air filters while I was at it..

Is an adjustable needle required?
If so what position should the clip be in?

Thanks,

Mike.

well I got the bike back on the road today for about 3 miles. I recently changes the spark plugs, upgraded the main and pilot jets, cleaned the carbs, added pod filters, replaced the throttle cables, and cleaned the gas tank.

When I got it on the road, the bike kept cutting out when at idle if I was not giving it gas. When riding, i was getting some backfiring and the bike was lurching forward every 10-20 seconds. I did this in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear.

Thoughts on what the problem might be?

As always thank you for the help.

Incorrect valve clearances can cause the reported symptoms.
