Thanks. I will check.. Also, when I started the bike I had to give it gas to get it to start.

Does that change your assessment at all?

On the plus side:
Before the carb work I would have to have the choke all the way up and then the bike would start, rev really high then drop very low and I would have to constantly fiddle with the choke and let the bike warm up for like 15 minutes before it would run without the choke on. Looks like that is no longer an issue.

Baby step in the right direction I guess...

Thanks,

Mike

some of the problems seem to have been linked to the fuel petcock diaphragm so I have ordered a kit.

Also, does anyone have a suggestion as to a specific spark plug wire to replace my old ones?

Thanks,

Mike

update:

bike is running much better. Still a little weird at high RPMs but much better than it has since I bought it in early July.

a couple of questions:

1) What size/brand do you all suggest picking up for spark plug wires?
2) Has anyone had a specific brand of reasonable prices paint that they would suggest using to paint the tank, fenders, side covers, ect.?

As always thank you.

Dyna solid core 7 mm plug wires come in black or red or yellow from Z1E.

Wouldn't fool with the 8 mm wires.

Make sure the battery is good... check it w a digital multimeter. Also if applicable, make sure the electrolyte isn't low... add distilled water if it is. Redo the spark plug wire connections at all points. If there's a lot of the white crusty stuff, nip off the ends of the wires a tad. Also redo the igniter leads.

Thanks for the info guys.

So I have put on about 250 miles in the last week or so. Most of the experience has been great. I am still noticing some lag in acceleration the first couple of minutes the bike is on and consistently when in second gear in the 25-35 mph range and 3rd gear in the 30-45 mph range (cant tell the RPM's because the tach does not work)

Thoughts as to what might be the problem?

Thanks,

Mike

If not already done, would use a timing light to assure proper functioning of the timing advancer by watching for it to quickly move back and forth as rpm is varied by blipping the throttle.

The advancer may require lubing or both cleaning and lubing.

Likely be able to apply a drop of oil onto the weight arm pivots by access through the timing inspection window.

Make sure the advancer does NOT look like this:

thank you for the info.

I was wondering about seat covers. My seat has seen better days but is not in terrible shape. When it rains however the foam is getting a little bit damp.

I found a couple places that sell seat covers but was wondering if there was one that you all suggest or any to steer away from...

Thanks
