Sounds like it just needs a bit more fiddling around to get it set. If they are all responding to adjustment, it just takes some time to get it. Keep a fan moving air across the motor when messing around to keep the temp down, a good sized one.
Oh have you re-torqued the engine after the first couple of heat cycles? Make sure you do if you haven't yet, cold of course.

Re: Finished - for now !
19 Jul 2012 01:08i removed the carbs and did an on bench set up with the .7mm wire. they were all out by quite a lot. It's amazing how much better it runs. I've also tweaked the pilot screws as it was running rich (the only way i could keep it running before manual carb setup) so hopefully that's it for nowMotor Head wrote: Sounds like it just needs a bit more fiddling around to get it set. Oh yea i did re-torque the head nuts had to go buy a new socket to reach in to the ones under the frame as it's difficult with the top cover on!!

Did you have a look at the simple vacuum sync tool I posted the link to? That little tool is really sensitive to adjustments, and real cheap.

19 Jul 2012 02:26I'd already bought a set of vacuum gauges but the carbs were so out it was impossible to set up using the gauges.Motor Head wrote: Did you have a look at the simple vacuum sync tool I posted the link to? That little tool is really sensitive to adjustments, and real cheap.
i'll run it for a bit and then tweak with gauges
