Finished - for now ! was created by KZ1000inaus
Well the old girl is back together and painted as close as i could guess to Luminous red, and even if it's not accurate I'm happy with it. :-)
A before pic (black) is attached which is what the bike looked like when it was imported from the US. That LTD seat seemed to shrink the bike !
Spent about $4k AUD so far ($900 on paint), and I'm nearly there. But knowing me I probably wont be able to stop until it's close to new looking.

Cheers all.. :-)

It's still running a little lumpy when cold and then when warmed up lumpy down low and i made it worse by playing around with mixture (and trying to balance carbs) but ran out of time yesterday. I might just give in on this one and book it in for a proper setting up. above 25000RPM she runs really sweet.

A good tuner will set them up right and you should never have to screw with them again.

Well did you replace the carb holders/ intake boots? Go through the carbs? Check thoroughly for vacuum leaks? Set the Fuel level in the bowls, using the clear tube test for a sight gauge?
Did you pre-set the sync on the bench?
Engine Compression even now? At what pressure?
A cheap home made pressure differential vacuum sync tool can be made real cheap, like $6 here in the USA. Probably about the same down under. Bunnings would have the stuff, I'm pretty sure.

yea replaced carb holders (in and outs) removed and cleaned carbs (very clean already) and i set the floats with clear tube on bench this weekend.
didnt pre-set the sync on bench though.
Will check compression again tonight, i wanted to run it for a couple of short runs before checking.
i bought a set of vacuum gauges from the UK pretty cheaply and have been using them. i managed to get 1&2 the same and 3&4 but could not get the pairs to match..
