So I found a csr650 for 250 bucks. I am not very knowledgeable about motorcycles but i figured i would give it a shot. The bike doesn't run (though had it running for about 10 seconds using starter fluid) small oil leak, all the boots for the intake are broken. Aside from that, the bike looks pretty clean. I am an auto mechanic and the guy at the tireshop connected used to be a motorcycle mechanic so i figure it cant be too hard to get running again.

I plan to chop off the airbox and get individual filters, throw some clubman handlebars on it, and respray it for now. Aside from that i dont really know what i wanna do to it. Anyhow hope you guys can lend a hand with some inspiration. Thanks alot!

-Kyle

If the bike has CV(constant Velocity Carbs) and it sure looks like it to me, running pods is a very bad idea, as the carbs need the vacuum to operate. You'd be continually adjusting jets, needle clip positions and get into a very expensive ($$$$$) search for parts.

If you buy the bike,DO NOT throw away the air fiter box, as they are becomming rare.

I'd have bought it too.

I'll second MFolks, reconsider the pod idea. Kawi knew what they were doing when they made the airbox. And never throw any good parts away, somebody somewhere will want them.

If the hoses to the airbox are at all hard, they will likely get ruined while you remove the carbs to replace the boots. I'd plan on ordering a new set of those too.

MFolks and martin_csr are right about it all. Air boxes are becoming rare and pods are a hassle. I have pods on my KZ and am looking to switch back to the stock air box. I would drain the fuel tank completely and blow it out with air. Check the tank for rust. I used this method to remove the rust in my tank.

Also, you can simply take your fuel and vacuum lines to a local parts store and get new ones cut to fit. If you have plastic T-fittings in your lines you should replace those as well since they get brittle and break over time. You can find these as well as a new in-line fuel filter at the local parts store also. Of course fresh fuel, change oil and oil filter, new spark plugs, etc.

Great find though! If I found a CSR in that condition for $250 I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat.

Good luck on the project!

Thanks a lot for all the input guys. Yea i think i am going to order the new boots and keep the stock airbox. Also the front caliper was frozen but after a little work its moving and working fine again. Surprisingly enough, the tank is clean. drained it, and put fresh fuel in. Sadly i didnt have time after work today to work on the bike but will probably clean out the carbs tomorrow. Thanks a lot guys!!!

So i got the carbs off today. The gas inside turned into sludge. xD unclogged the jets and spent about 2 hours getting the float needles to move again. Sadly ran outta time and had to call it quits for the day. Gonna finish cleaning out the carb tomorrow and see if she starts. Wish me luck guys.

(it sucks only having time to work on the bike after work/before school... >.>)

Could you describe what happened when you tried to start it?

Did you try ether? Have you checked your points? Etc.

And good luck!
