Wonder if any further progress?
I too dislike "modding" a decent vintage and irreplaceable tank, so I managed to eventually pick up a very nice and straight used tank in need of paint, as well of VERY nice side covers already repainted. I hope to eventually do a custom paint job using a color shifting orange/red scheme on both the tank and covers - but WILL plan on using the OEM Kawasaki emblems on the tank, this way, I can store the OEM tank and covers in case I ever wanted to switch back to stock - after all the work, wouldn't want uninformed onlookers to think it was a Honda or Suzuki...
BUT, I too need a better seat setup - mine's too high for decent ground footing when at rest, and seating position is a bit too far forward for comfortable riding position.

I have been lurking around the site for a couple of years but this is my first time joining a discussion,so I hope Im doing it right.
Anyway,Im busy with the seat on my CSR1000MLC project.I ditched the original sofa that Kawasaki fitted and stripped all the lugs and brackets off the frame.Like you, Im going for a fiberglass seat base, but Im not sure of the best way to fix it down to the frame when its finished.
Im keeping the airbox for now and the batterybox so theres not a lot of room to get my fingers in to fiddle with nuts and bolts. How did you fix yours down??
Nice job on the bike.I agree about the fork brace and have no problem with modding tanks

If you caver the seat area with saran wrap, you can lay up fiberglass right on it that will "wrap" the frame tubes....will allow the seat to be "snapped' on & off

Be careful if you go the cling wrap route. Isophthalic or orthophthalic resins will melt the cling wrap no problem. A good way to know if the resin is one of these types is if it uses MEKP as the catalyst. I would use epoxy resin with cling wrap as it is much less volatile. Or you could use packaging tape which is my favorite when masking for resins. well... next to axle grease :woohoo:
