I'm running 29" long forks with a 5 deg rake and I don't think I'm too low. Not sure but think I could get away with a underneath style header.
Build looks good by the way.

Thanks for the info Les. Do you have a build thread? Is a 5 degree rake modified from stock? What is the stock rake on a KZ1000? Questions questions questions B)

Not a problem, as for the rake it's not stock, Can't tell you off the top of my head right now which is bad for me but not sure of the stock rake. I have a build thread on 1 called "Z1R Custom" but the one I'm speaking of is on "Another one followed me home". Any questions, ask, there is a lot of good knowledge on here.

So.......
It's been a little while since I posted an update. I have been spending my time getting my other long-term project (1977 Camaro, you can see it in the background in some pics) up and running. It's been Craigslisted and sold, so now I have a little funding and more time to spend on the KZ.

My new steering stem bearings from Allballs bearings have arrived, and my missing stem nuts and hardware from Ebay are on the way.

I'm thinking about using a 520 chain instead of 530, just to get as much clearance as possible. Investigating front sprocket options, rear sprockets for the ZX7 wheel seem to be pretty readily available. Pros and Cons anyone?

I'm planning on hitting it hard this weekend, I'll get a good update and some pics posted-up soon.

I bought a vortex 520 and had a member on here use my old sprocket and the new one to make me an offset 520 front I will admit I dont have enough miles on it yet to i really cant testify to how it will last but it's a DID evr3 and I have fired it up with no problems yet.

Any modification to the frame or crush/carrier for chain clearance? You and Scootjockey are giving me hope!

I'm hoping that by machining the rear sprocket hub I can move the chain over far enough that I won't need to do anything to the frame. I can also move the swingarm over a little bit, it's narrower than the frame at the pivot point. I need to get off my lazy rear and get the carrier machined, and to do that I need to get a 530 chain to see how much clearance I have. I'm pinching pennies, so I don't want to invest in a new rear sprocket until I know if I need to go to a 520 chain.

i use a 520 chain and have for several thousand miles.

both non-oring and o-ring,i wouldn't hesitate to run a 520.

i fabbed up ramtoughs offset countershaft sprocket from his old one and a new one.

before welding,

after welding,
