Bike deserves an upgrade to hydraulic brakes.

Definitely go for hydraulic brakes, what bike is your calliper off? I bought one for a z250 but it's for the wrong side, I'm wondering off I could switch it the same as yours Stephens?

Caliper came off of a kh125 which looks a lot like the z250.
Had to use kh caliper mount and make an adaptor plate and weld it to the kh mount.
All the braking force is behind the fork which works for me.

Sorry seem to be hi jacking your thread here.
I've started my own project thread.

I think I might have to take the same tact with my kz250 caliper to get that to work.

Projects going to stall for a few weeks, I've got to swap the engine over on my '54 bantam as I have to take it for DVLA inspection before they'll let me put it on the road!

Cheers
Ian

Hope all goes well with that :)
Never had to take a bike for inspection other than an Mot, and that can be nerv wracking enough...

It should be ok, they apparently only check the frame and engine numbers, here she is almost ready;

Cheers, It's a plunger frame, basically a rigid frame but the wheel spindle is fixed between 2 springs giving it a small amount of travel, plus the seats sprung so it's not too stiff, I've only ridden it round a field and a crapark so far, and it's mot'd for daylight use only. I'm not sure how practical it'll be on the road!

I bet wherever you ride it a crowd will form.
Seems that at all the bike meets we go to its always the out of the ordinary, older machines that get all the attention.
Who wants to get there first anyway :)

I started work on my z200 again today, I stripped off nearly everything so can start from an almost blank canvas. I'm thinking of going for a daylight not to keep the bike as light and simple as possibl, plus all the wiring is shot, most electrical components are missing or broken and I hate electrics!!

I wired the generator directly to the coil, I then kicked it over but it turns out there's no magnets in the flywheel

Bugger!

I'm on the lookout for a replacement but could do with knowing what other kawasakis share the same part numbers

Cheers

Just been over to work to the workshop to carry on stripping the old girl down. I think I've now got absolutely everything off ready to start the 'dry build'

But first things first, I need to get the generator rotor/flywheel replaced to see if the engines any good. I'll not be spending any money until I ensure I can get the engine to run.
After that the plan is to keep it as a daylight Mot'd cafe style racer. It'll be stripped of all excess weight, brackets, frame lugs etc.
I'm planning on making my own adjustable clip on bars, rear set footpegs, clock brackets, seat and race hump, modified front & rear mudguards. It is going to be built on the strictest budget possible. I'll be selling off everything i've pulled off either on here or eBay.

It'll be fairly slow but I think I'll end up getting into my stride once I get the engine running!
