I thought I would start a build thread here.

I was cleaning my 1075 sleeves yesterday and around the top there was what looked like some sort of chemical bonding matter. ( )

Any how, Is it necessary to bond the sleeves to the jugs? I have pulled jugs before and have them fall out on the floor without benifit of a press. Roy

Nope, not necessary to bond sleeves to jugs. :) I'll be watching this resurrection.

the head and head gasket captures the sleeves so they cant spin or go anywhere once the engine is assembled.

Roy, Leon's got it right as usual. The sleeves have a shoulder that sits down in a counterbore in the jugs. When it's all bolted together, the top of the sleeve gets pinched by the head, and that should hold it in place. Here's one of the sleeves that I pulled from a 1015 block the other day.

I have got mine ready to press in. I got some bags that you freeze for your lunch box or whatever and I am going to put them in the cylinders and freeze them to shrink the sleeves and heat the jugs with a heat gun.

I do not want to bust one of theese.

I got the sleeves pressed in yesterday. Today I assembled the jugs on the block and installed the head. Maybe I will fire it up tomorrow.

This is my work area and my poor old bike.

If the engine doesn't make weird knocking noise I will pull the engine and get ready to install it on the other frame.

If the weather is nice again next week I should have the frame painted. Roy

Thanks Leon. The lack of money is the root of a lot of work.

I wish I could get a few hours to work on my engine. I was interrupted as usual.

I use a piece of cam to get a rough shim spec. so I don't have to deal with spring pressure. I have been getting better at this. Last time I only had to readjust two shims.
I try and get five thou. clearance with this method. The oil will take a lot of the clearance away.

I looked all over the shop last night for my can of shims. I must have searched 30 minutes and finally gave up. I was eating and remembered that Jeff had gave me a shim storage box.

I have the cams sitting in the engine. That is as far as I got. If it is still cold tomorrow I might get the cams and carbs sorted and fire the bike. Roy
