Tore the top end down to inspect things a bit. Quite a bit of carbon build up on the pistons, but nothing unusual. Cylinders looks pretty good (not that it matters much). Head is in good shape.. Rods are nice and tight, no excessive play, so things look good.
This morning I took all the pieces to Joe at Pit Stop Performance in Orlando. Fortunatly for me he is right in my back yard. I live like 20 mins from his shop. Great guy, and very informative. Im sure everyone how has already done business with him knows that.
So here is the plan for the motor as of today. (we know how things change)
Engine:
Full Head Job (guides, springs, etc)
Stage 1 Porting
PSP-3X Cam (.418" Lift, 282 deg @ .030" Lift)
New Studs, Cam Chain, etc..
Cylinder bored to 72mm (1075cc)
MTC 72mm Pistons
Welded Crank
Back Cut tranny.
Thats the nuts of the build, but of course will do all the small stuff, seals, bead blast the block, etc. Should net me a CR of 10.5:1 with a nice solid running platform. Im still debating about uping the valve size, but don't think I will at this point.
Suspension:
Here is what I have lined up, but still working on some details.
Rear:
2005 GSXR 1000 swing arm, shock and mounts. (on its way now)
2006 ZX10R Rear Wheel
2006 ZX10R Rear Brake Setup
Front:
2006 ZX10R Complete Front End
Forks, Tree's, Brakes, Controls, etc.
2006 Front Wheel
Misc:
2006 ZX10R Sets Front and Back
Im still trying to work out shipping on the 06 stuff, hopefully get that worked out this week.
Any thoughts or issues I may run into?
Thanks guys..
Jack

Otto, you should find me about six or so of those tanks and ship them over to me. They are in short supply over here, and I would love to get my hands on a few more..
Jack
What would people be willing to pay for a tank in decent condition? If I stumble upon some cheap ones I might just buy it and check if there is any intrest for them here on KZR.

I would bet you could get 100~200 pretty easily for the tanks. Shipping might be a little stiff though..

In a nut shell, size, look and cost.. There are a lot of options, but I have seen both the GSXR 750 and 1000's used before and figured the 1000 would be a good fit shock wise for the weight of the KZ. Here is a pic of the one I picked up.
You have a build thread going of your bike? Would love to check it out.
EDIT: As a follow up to that, I would of liked to use the ZX10R swingarm, but its to wide.

1979 kz659 sr- new acquisition NEXT project GONE
Both 650s combined to make one great bike! with a new powerplant
it is a 79 frame, 78 front end, both 78 wheels and brakes, 78 body work and a 80' 750-4 motor with gpz 750 cams and a kerker and...

I got the swing arm today and mocked it up. My question is this... What is everyone else doing on the the bottom shock mount? Are you reinforcing the center stand mount at all or just using it as is? Im thinking of welding on some top and bottom plates for extra support. Thoughts?
Also stripped the tank.. Someone was not nice to it, found no less then 4 filler spots, but I will take care of that. R&R'd the petcock and the fuel sender unit. Tested it appears to be working fine.
I should have the front suspension and wheels on Monday. Then I will do a mock up with everything and see how it looks..
Here are a couple pics..

It really depends on where the bottom linkage mount falls. You need to replicate the donor bike's linkage geometry as close as possible. Sometimes the linkage will fall into the center stand holes but most likely you'll need to cut off the center stand tabs and make new ones for a different location.

i see u r off to a nice start. u were asking about frame braceing. well my freind , you'll be happy to know that your frame allready has all the bracing required. all the brace kits try to duplicate what u allready have.
