In the pic that porche provided, it is threaded at both ends.So if it has an allen hole in the end, i would asume it threads into the frame.
I jus remembered that i have a zx9 manual on my computer at home. i will try to look it up for u tonight. if u dont hear back, pm me and kick me in the nodes.:woohoo:

Stop you need to remove the bolt by turning it. It is threaded on the outside into the frame you have to unbolt.

Yeah its the same as the gsxr. I think you thread the pivot bolt into the frame then the nut on the end and then the spanner nut. But yeah its threaded into the frame. Looks like you need a 17 mm allen head socket or you can get a 17 mm headed bolt and then thread nuts on it and weld them into place then stick it into the swingarm pivot bolt and use a ratchet on the end voila cheap and easy tool

Thank you for the advice! I kind of thought that would be the case with this. I'm not sure if I have a 17mm bolt laying around, I'll definitely have to do some digging around tomorrow! I'll let you know how it turns out!

Also, I have an extra triple tree from my parts bike, so while I enjoy riding, I can work on getting the stem correct at the same time :cheer:

I did my swap with a set of 91 zx7 forks. I was able to just cut the zx stem off flush and then cleaned it out and pressed the gpz stem into it. welded it up.

That's a good idea for the stem to just cut it off and press the new one in. I have no need for the old zx stem anyway.

I went out today with my vernier caliper and that allen head measure 22mm!
Do they make an allen that large? I'm not sure I have a bolt that big. I'll have to do some digging around the garage!

Woah Baby! 22mm is a friggen big allen head. Know any european deisel mechanics who'll loan you some tools. In all seriousness try to find a bolt with a 22mm head and a nut that fits the bolt. Weld the nut to the bolt, and insert one end into the pivot loosen with a 22mm socket or crescent wrench. However I'm bettin' that the 22mm head won't be easy. You could use a bolt with a 7/8" head and file it down to fit. I think that 5/8-11 bolts have 7/8" heads. Hope that helps. I think that a 22mm hex socket will cost too much for a once in a lifetime use.

haha i couldn't agree with you more! I'll search out for a 22 mm bolt and nut and weld it up and try to get it loose. I hope that works out!

Alright everyone, I finally got a chance to go play in the garage and finally uploaded some photos to my photobucket so I'll give this a shot! I made my homemade tool! Thanks for the advice it worked perfectly! And cost $2.22!

And here are a few pictures to show anyone interested how the swingarm assembly looks and works, and how it is threaded into the frame with that little adapter you will see...

Here's what it looks like inside it, pretty solid and easy to use!

Below you can see the threaded piece that holds the pivot bolt in place

Here's where it goes...

So I took a bunch of measurements and will just put it away in the corner until I'm ready to continue!

Woo hoo!! :woohoo: Multiple pics in a post! I figured it out one time before but went so long without doing it again I had to look up how to do it again.

Now the front end I can begin to start working on. I have a spare steering stem from my parts bike, so can work on getting it set while I ride. Here are pics of them side by side...

I'll take some measurements and get started on it soon!
