1981 KZ1000 CSR
22 Jan 2011 20:45
Well i did it again. I picked up another KZ... My last KZ1000 was a 79 shaftdrive that I had to part ways with .
My new project is a 81 KZ1000 CSR. At present the carbs need cleaned/rebuilt and it looks like the fork seals are toast. But other then that she looks like she led a pretty easy life. 11268 original miles...
Didnt know if you guys could point me to some detailed threads on rebuilding/cleaning carbs and replacing fork seals? I appreciate it guys!
Pics...
I have the original tail light and blinkers. Those led ones look kinda lame if you ask me.
One more question...What does the CSR stand for?

That last picture brings back some memories. I had the exact same bike (not nearly as nice) that I gave up on.
Nice lookin' scooter!

Thanks for the kind words. She has been stored inside most of its life. Im really stoked on how good of shape she is in for a 30yr old bike. Im looking forward to gettting her back on the road...

You know whats strange....
I left my CSR in Hutchinson KS 30 years ago!
I just got another one a few days ago.
The one I picked up has 22,000 miles and dont look bad either.
I plan to go through the whole bike, get back to like new!
I'm liking the bars on yours!
Mind if I ask what you give for it?

Started with plucking the carbs off today for the cleaning/rebuild. To my surprise, I found a oem tool kit. Was kinda stoked about that..
Most of the little warning stickers and instruction stickers are still on the bike. Which goes along with what the last owner said about it being garaged most of its life.
Pics...
Now the fun begins with the carbs....

Update: Cleaned up the carbs and got them on. Had some issues getting her to run, found a kinked fuel line. After fixing that she fired right up. Put some air in the tires and was ready to take her for a little spin. Put her in first gear but she wouldnt move. I adjusted the clutch cable all the way out, nothing. Im thinking the clutch is toast....From what I hear a clutch replacement is not a hard task to do. Any hints/tips or recommendations(clutch) are welcome...

Clutch push rod adjustment might resolve the issue.
It's a routine maintenance item.
Free, simple, clean, quick, easy, and often very effective.
