Steve's Turbo KZ650 was created by S_J_H
I have had a thread running over at kz650.info for a while now, but I visit this site all the time so I wanted to share it here as well.
This was the bike as I bought it 1.5 years ago. It was in great shape with 7500 mi.

And where it stands now-

Everything is 100% done by me- all machining, fab, paint, welding, goofs and mistakes I'm to blame!

frame braced and painted-

intake- gt15 turbo, 2 piece aluminum plenum, rs34's

zr7 arm- wheelbase at 60.25", progressive 418's

Fork extenders-

Autometer NV gauges-

I'll be glad to post more pics or answer questions if anybody is interested.

Some other tidbits,
I'm using a dyna2000 setup for ign, efi pump & return style fuel system,
pitot tube (adjustable with jets) to carb bowls, an older techedge wideband for tuning.

I still have a ton of work to do including a scavenge pump I'm going to make using a spare set of Gerotors.

Thanks for looking,
Steve

Ditto here...

Are you having scavenging issue? It looks like the turbo is high enough that the return shouldn't be a problem (to my untrained eye/brain). Are you just putting it in for insurance?

How much did the GT15 run you and do you know the Trim & A/R?

What pistons are you on - stock? Any other internal upgrades? (You painted the engine, so I'm assuming it was apart before the buildup).

Very cool! Can't wait to get started on mine...

Edit: On second glance the turbo is pretty low...I get the scavenge pump.

SWEET! Just know that all blow through systems run out of fuel sometime with out external enrichment. Creap up on the boost an keep an eye on that wideband. HAVE FUN!

Hey thanks guys!

On second glance the turbo is pretty low...I get the scavenge pump.

The turbo is not quite high enough to gravity drain. I originally tapped into the engines oil pump intake, running a line to the turbo drain out the front of the pan. It worked OK but not good enough and it smoked a little. I know the guys who have made this system work use a reed valve on the pumps intake, but I don't want to mess with that system anymore and will just use a separate pump.

How much did the GT15 run you and do you know the Trim & A/R?

Around 300$ or so, it's a knockoff but of good quality. The turbine side's iron casting is excellent with no occlusions and very well machined, as well as the rest of the unit.
Of course as soon as I got it I tore it down for inspection :silly: -

Just know that all blow through systems run out of fuel sometime with out external enrichment. Creap up on the boost an keep an eye on that wideband.

Yes you are certainly correct. Supercharged motors are not new to me, but this is my first forced induction bike though.

The fuel system begins with the modified pickup and return-

An EFI type pump is mounted to the battery box-

Fuel regulator and lines. The blue tie wrapped lines are connected to the float bowl overfill nipples. The 2 side vents on each RS34 carb have been plugged. The 4 lines will connect to a yet to be machined manifold that will connect to the pitot tube.

The pitot tube is welded inside this intake pipe, I machined the output to accept "jets", so I can trim the pitot's dynamic pressure signal to the carbs if needed.

School Teacher, yes I made the exhaust. I'm not real happy with it but it will do for now.

What pistons are you on - stock? Any other internal upgrades? (You painted the engine, so I'm assuming it was apart before the buildup).

The engine is stock and in excellent condition. It will be built up the end of next season with good parts. I'll be running water/alcohol to keep the hyper pistons alive and ward off the rattle demon's.
I pretty much gave up drag racing a few years ago, but I still have a slight need for speed.
Steve
