Where to find J model engines

I have a Moto Martin project bike that I have had for many years just setting in the garage waiting for me to make time to start it. I was misinformed years ago as to which engine would work in it. I was under the impression that the older KZ1000 engines would work in this frame. Not so it takes a J model. With the wrong information at hand I purchased a 1980 KZ1000 LTD to use the engine and some of the electrical parts from. So I pulled the engine (what a pain by yourself)and put it in the Moto Martin frame last weekend to find that it will not fit and I do need the J model engine. So I have gone on the hunt for an engine but having trouble finding these without purchase of the full bike. Does anyone know of a good source for engines?

I wonder if a Police mill would fit your frame? There are lots of those out there, but probably all with lots of mileage.

I am located in Houston. Have not had the time to find my way around the forum nor have I ever signed up on any forums.

Bikes in the garage - 996 Ducati, 851 Ducati, 1981 Honda 900F, 1981 Moto Martin, Bimota KB1, 1980 KZ.

I believe the Moto Martin to be an 81 for all I have is the original transfer when it was imported to the U.S. back in 81 an indicated "J" model. This bike is complete as it was sold in a kit to use a KZ1000 engine. It requires an engine and all of the electrical system. Since it has set in the garage for many years it will get completely stripped, frame re-nickel plated, brakes worked on, rotors cleaned up, bearings replaced where needed, etc.

The Bimota is a rolling chassis with a road race inspired engine that has set for many years. Body work lost many years ago. It to will become a project one day. Engine has no starter provisions, etc. and will require much work to be used on the street. This bike will become a project one day.

The 1980 KZ is the donor for the Moto Martin which will not work in this frame. The 900F hasn't been used for years, just have not had the time to play with my bikes. Ride the Ducati regular.

Hello Mike...as you are probably aware...there is a dearth of old KZ's in the greater Houston area...I'm not sure why, but they are not as commonly for sale around here as in other areas...I have only purchased one bike here since I have been in the area (my 1982 GPz1100)...my other bikes came from Austin, Plano, and Florida.

Yes you are correct, not much available on the old KZ's in the Houston area. You do not see them on the road in and around Houston. I am sure there are some nice examples stashed away in garages somewhere.

For the most part what you see on the streets here are sport bikes and Harleys. I have a couple sport bikes and love them but there is this calling back to the older stuff.

There is a shift back to cafe bikes and in my opinion the KZ engine is hard to beat for appearance not to mention the options for additional performance. I love the air cooled engines and the lack of hoses and radiators. I believe the Moto Martin frame will make a nice combination with the KZ engine.

Dang, that's a pretty nice fleet you got going there. Any chance of pictures? We love seeing pictures, whether it's a box of rusty parts or a complete project.
