More progress:
Carbs are next. They are all cleaned I just need to install the rebuild kits. Where do you buy that adapter for setting the floats? Can I make one? Thanks.

Thank you.
Well, I moved on to the body a little today. Keeping with the Shoe String budget, I decided to repaint the parts myself. I found a nice looking metallic blue and a small can of black. Using 400 wet/dry I sanded down the original clear coat just to the color coat. I'm going to mask off the original stripes (since the cost of repos is friggin ridiculous:angry: ) The tank is in very good shape, I just needed to do some minor cleaning inside since it was sitting so long.
Before photo, you can see the clearcoat lifted shortly after the bike was removed from storage:
Here it is sanded. It's pretty humid here so I only did a coat on the bottom.
I found a rattle can 2 part clear coat that should be safe for the gas. I have the equipment to spray just the initial cost of the paints is out of my budget right now. Maybe over the winter I'll get it painted original or pic up one of those aftermarket sets.

Thanks. Yeah, someone here mentioned threading in part of a pen so I was able to do that. Worked like a charm.

Got some little things done. I need to decide on tires and shocks so I can put this puppy back on it's feet to finish it.
I think I'm going to refurbish the controls. Since I repainted the clutch perch and added the new bars the worn controls look like ass now. lol
Replacing hardware little by little.
Repainted the headlight bucket, going to leave the signals off for now. You don't need them in NJ for inspection. I'll find some smaller ones later on. I don't want to hack the bike or anything, just give it a little better styling like smaller directionals and mirrors instead of those humongus lollypops.

i found these and they blend in really nice with the frame and headlight blacks...
they do not appear modern once mounted to a Z ,like they do in the picture here and the shape seems to blend with our body pieces and frame dia...tiny about a inch or two...they realy just dissappear on the bike imo...
they do require a small bit of fidging to mount, but your skills, you wont even notice the hassle...they are cheap $ and mine are 4 yrs old and look new...no fadeing or cracks ect...
e-bay

Cool, thanks! Do you have a pic with them installed? I was thinking something surface mount, kind of hidden, instead of stems. Those look nice though.
