Re: A little bit of an upgrade...

Why has Admin Tools blocked me from accessing the site from my work computer? We don't have a firewall here so I don't think our network is the problem.
Anyway, been riding the 650 as much as possible and getting everything g adjusted and then bam! Tach (gpz) starts fluttering, bike is studded g and backfiring, and then shuts off and I have power intermittently. No blown fuses, continuity checks out. So much of a pain in the ass. Luckily it isn't time to be riding for my commute and I wasn't far from home when it happened. I can only assume it is component failure and I just have to figure out which component.
Stay tuned...

Reposting now that I am away from Photo-bastard
Alright. Now that that is done, I am going to try and get around to a couple of changes to the bike over the early spring (too many irons...). One of which is changing out the base gasket, another is adding passenger peg mounts for the misses, and the other is rearrange the rider foot controls into a slightly rear-set foot rest and associated brake and shift control. I really got used to GP shift from the old arrangement and it didn't really dawn on me how ingrained it was in my muscle memory. I also need to address the fact that the plastic welded part of my tailsection/rear fender popped off one day and I decided that it wasn't executed well. I will weld on tabs to attach teh fender directly to the rear frame hoop and bolt it on that way.
For now, see ya in the funny papers...

Yep, cheap battery from amazon. Swapped in a Duracell AGM from the local Batteries+ and it has been great since. It must of shorted internally and every time I turned the key on there was power to the light, then lights out when I hit the start button. Pulling my hair out with this. I have a 50 miles commute and didn't want any break downs.

13 Feb 2018 10:15Yup, I just had the same thing happen a few months ago. I had dash lights then everything would go dead after trying the starter. New battery fixed it.Bdog wrote:loudhvx wrote: Great bike! Did you figure out the stalling issue?

Wanted to change things up a little and really see what the APE TracKing clutch was capable of and had the parts laying around, sort of.
Changed the footrest location to go back to GP shift style of gear selection for more positive upshifts, and I think it will be more comfortable. I had recently received a big pile of oil cooled GSXR parts and stuff so I am picking through that as well for changes to this old girl.
6" over 1995 GSXR750 swingarm will be a good bit different for me and if I don't like it I will change it back.

Well as expected the longer swingarm made the bike not want to turn at all. I converted back to the stock length swingarm. Also dug into the carbs to see if I could remedy the part throttle cruising issue I faced on the way home from work. I thought the pilots were going to be stock 37.5 Mikunis and they were just too lean at that throttle setting... nope, someone had 45s in there and I was seeing the result of a fat pilot instead. I wonder if the larger ones were used on larger displacement (GPz1100) motors? Anyway, I had already ordered the 40 pilot jets that I have seen suggested to be paired with the DJ stage three that I have been running for years, I just need the time for a test ride soon...

Now that I have acquired an 06 Hayabusa for commuter work, I am starting to fiddle with the KZ a bit more. I had an older V&H exhaust from a Powerscreen "Katana" 1100 that won't be missing it these days. It slipped right on the collector of my existing Kerker system. The only baffle I ever had for this Kerker was a comp version with like a 2" opening and all the repacking in the world wouldn't make the thing anything but ear splitting. So the first two were a test fit to see if it would be any quieter, the next was the first version of the moded exhaust and then I got ahold of a section of 2 1/8" OD mandrel bent exhaust tubing and am going to make it a bit of a high level exhaust. To be continued...

I found the time to add a little more to the system, but the area circled in red isn't my favorite part. I am going to try and smooth that area out a little before it is fully welded.
I am also hoping to come up with something clever for a hanger. I am thinking about using a couple of pieces of steel rod with a collar around the shock mount and maybe add a tab under the tail section to attach them. Kind of a triangular arrangement, with round material to blend with the roundness of the bike.

Couldn't wait, and I had a few minutes in the garage last night. Cut a few slices in the very beginning of the mid pipe and tacked them back to get a slight curve, then chopped a chunk off the next section that it was tacked to. Had to take a file to the burrs inside, but it cleaned up well.
A little slimmer in the profile also.

After a bunch of tacking and grinding, this is the final shape, I'm not messing with it any more.
I also wanted to take care of something that may have saved my tank from a car tipping my bike over years ago. A steering stop.
