and the gear wear... If it was just for this I might use the trans; but then again I want it to be a solid bottom end not something I need to re-visit in 2 years.

So what clutch would you use with that 6-speed trans?

That sucks but that is cool that trans will fit. I too have been sold garbage on ebay. I am build ing a bike pretty much completely assembled from parts on ebay. i have had to send a part back no biggie ther but then i bought a set of brakes that did not come with everything shown in the pics i got a partial refund but i should have gotten more cause the mount bolts were next impossible to get. keep it up

I am not gonna lie; I did not even think of that till you asked. I guess the answer is, which ever one seems better to use :P

I have a friend who does amazing work... so if something needs to get machined I will call him. I am hoping the kz basket will fit...but it very well may not. Maybe now is the time to start thinkin about one of those new fancy slipper clutches all the sport bikes run

I was just wondering because I have a hopped up 650 with lots of work done and I run a 17 front sprocket and I'm always looking for another gear when I'm on the freeway. I like the idea of a 6 speed, I tried a GPZ550 trans but couldn't get it to work with the cases torqued together and I would have had to use the 550 clutch.

Yes I remember reading your threads on the old forum.

I am HOPING the tranny you got had a bent shift fork, but I will probably be measuring everything and trying to find what causes the throuble shifint into 6th.

Did you use the shift forks from the 650 or the 550? The zx600 and kz650 shift forks are clearly different. But if I had to bet I would say you knew that already... I hope yours was a fluke issue, but I am prepared for the worst.

Next on my list, pull the nutral finder out of the zx600 tranny so I can try shifting through the gears.

I'm pretty sure I used the 550 shift drum and forks, I don't think it would work other wise. It would go into all 6 gears with the cases still split but not with the cases together. Man I hope you get it to work cause I'll be adding one to my motor too. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Mark, are you still reading this??

How much of the motor was together when you torqued it all down and found the problem??

I just got the correct bearings and caps swapped around tonight to make it all fit nice (the input shaft end cap are different, and to swap it I needed the cap from the 650, the needle bearings under it and a washer under those needle bearings all from the 650) I can take pictures to show the parts I swapped if this all works.

then I put the otherwise empty cases back together and put the inner sprocket cover on; tossed in a half dozen bolts and tightened them up.

THE BUGGER WORKS! all 6 gears change easily.

But I wonder, maybe a part that I will install later will cause the issue... but the mock up seems to work well. Pic's tomorrow.
