The bike is now where I can do some work on it so I'll be tearing into the bugs very shortly.
I've decide (I think) that I'm going to run a Lucas style tail lamp (sans plate holder) right up against the base of the seat. I think it'll look much more intentional and permanent then the ghetto side mount. the plate will stay there for now though as I'm not convinced I like the idea of the plate on the fender.
Not sure if I mentioned it, but I'm likely going to run a pair of these with factory dual head pipes:
Might just move to black piping, but the wrap may stay as well...I'm torn...

That was my initial intention (w3ell triumph stle pea-shooters were but not for the kind of coin they sell for...) and then having an exhaust shop bensome tubing up for the proper look, but something about those slash cuts makes me happy...and II've gots to have em...even if the are $99 ea...

Look around for those in some places. I bet you can find them cheaper. JC Whitney, Allyn Air Seat Co., and others carry similar if not the same slashcuts like what you have. I bet you can find them a far cry cheaper than that.

I'm a stikler for little details and something about this muffler makes like more then any other slash cut I've ever seen...
I know there are cheaper options and I've found some blems on ebay for a resonable price, so I may go that route.

I'VE OFFICIALLY FOUND THE FREAKING PROBLEM!!!!!!!!
In the comfort of my dad's garage I had a bit of time to tear in this evening. After painfully removing a couple of stripped bolts and using an impact driver on the rest I waqs able to get inside the case...what a freaking mess.
The chain guide and sprocket were built up with grime and then there was the stator cover...after removing it I found roughly a full tablespoon worth of bloody rust powder just chilling...
Last I checked electrical compnents don't function to well in those conditions so there it is...
With a new stator ready to go in, I'm letting it soak with WD-40 for the night so I don't strip or break any of the hardware and the new stator will be in in the next few days...
...I can honestly say I'm going to sleep better tonight.

Stator is in and she runs like a champ!!!!!...on the charger...
...f*kin thing still won't charge...
Well I'm guessing the used stator wasn't good to begin with, but I don't know. Regardless it needed to be replaced because of the rust so I'm not too worried about it, but it may need to be rewound. There are only 2 other components in this system, the regulator and the rectifier, both are new and both test out perfect.I intend to take it in to a specialist to get finihsed up here in the coming months as I just can't justify wasting any more time in the garage or loosing sleep thining about it. I was already going to have a pre-ride inspection done to make sure everything was up to snuff, they'll just need to get it running first now...this bike hates me...

valvesprung, that's a pretty bike you got there. Any plans for rearsets? I highly recommend them if you're going for a lower handlebar, even a superbike bend.
Wow... that never gets old. Not everyone wants to look like Fonzie on a Hardley wannabe cruiser. Not bad looking for a cliche racer.

Yeah I do intend to build rear sets at some point, but it does sit pretty comfortably even with the mild clubman bars. We'll see what happens, unfortunately there aren't many parst on the market made for the KZ400 except for OE parts...I'm not much of a fabricator either
