She's ready!
19 Mar 2007 04:48
Well when I first bought her, I had the intention of just using her as my rat bike. But as I got to know her I realized she deserved so much more than rat bike status. So over the winter I had a friend of mine put me on a nice PPG base coat/clear coat paint job.
I also put on some Sporster shocks and a new seat cover from Travelcade. I haven't wandered very far from stock as far as modifying her, although I do plan on installing a tail light I'd posted about last week. And I have to do something about some different turn signals too.
So basically, now she's at least presentable. Not rebuilt or restored (by my definition anyway). She's what someone here described as a twenty footer. She looks great from twenty feet away. OK, maybe she'a a five footer. But get too much closer and you'll see that I didn't disassemble much of her. That'll come later once I have more room in my garage to do a proper rebuild.
But she's ready for this summer:

But now I'm not so sure I like the fairing all that much.
And I still have to shine up the forks.
Oh, and I want to thank everybody for all of the invaluable help- I've been fortunate to find on this site. KZRider ROCKS!!

Where do you get that seat cover? That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for! Bike looks pretty mint to me!

Ron, that would be this cover:
Cover at Bike Bandit
I doesn't look exactly like the one shown in the picture, but looks exactly like the original.
Be prepared for a good wrasslin' match with it though.

Thanks for shrinking that up for me moderator. One of these days I'll learn how to do that.
One more showing Kano where his ignition cover went.
Thanks Kano!

Beautiful KZ, riverroad. You should rack up a lot of happy miles on it this summer.
This winter you can work on the details, but for now it needs nothing except to be ridden.
Ride safe.

Thanks inline. Yesterday I put the body set on, put some gas in the tank, and she fired right up. warmed it up for a bit, then I changed the oil and filter. Took her for a ride around the neighborhood and now I suspect her sitting outside all winter didn't do any good to the advancer unit. Has some off idle misfiring.
I'll look at that this afternoon.

Very nice lookin' scoot there RR! clean and simple.
I noticed that you aren't running a chain guard.
What are you using for chain lube, and did it cause a mess on your short ride?
