Otto ; great to hear from another kz1300 owner. I have a 1980 A2 that i have spent a lot of time working on and riding. I come home with a big grin every time i go out on it. For a huge amount of valuable information on these bikes look at www.kz1300.com and also search Yahoo groups for kz1300. I find a lot of parts on ebay for a good price. Mine is painted green to resemble the 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica bike. I used a GPZ fairing from a 1982 GPZ 550. I only had to make 2 small mounting brackets to make it fit. Good luck with your project and keep the pics. coming. Bob

Hi Bob
I also have the little GPz fairing. I was going to use it but when I went on the 1300 web sight there were a lot of them so I wanted to be a little diferrent. I still want to use as much Kawasaki as possible so I decided with this Fairing Mod. I also have an extra Z-1R fairing but it looks like a soar thumb on the bike. I buy a lot of parts for my bikes on eBay at good prices. Except for the frames I have enough parts to build three of these bikes, engines, wheels, tanks, etc. etc. I bought (won) this bike new in 1979 in Honolulu from KDUK radio and by 1983 I put 48000 miles on it. I have been riding my other bikes in the past years and decided to resirrect "Clyde" as he has affectionately become known, because when I pull up next to other rice-rockets, I look like I am sitting on a
Clydesdale.

I decided that the fairing shape just was not right for the bike so I decided to change it some. Here are some pictures of the plastic work performed on it.

The material used on the work is a "Kevlar" reinforced two part plastic which is slightly flexible to prevent cracking. You can notice the angle difference of the nose on the precedeing picture when you look at the far side of the fairing. I always doo one side untill I am satisfied, before i coppy the work to the other side.
I have also media blasted the other plastic parts and sprayed them with "featherfill". Tail and one side cover finished. The other side cover I will spray with the fairing.

Here is a closeup of a Media-Blasted part for my GPz-1100 for comparison.
The part is cleaned down to bare plastic with a 30-Grit soft media.

wow... how much work have you done with fiberglass, or plastic?

I'm trying to make a tailpiece/side covers/front deflector, and would love your input on it.

I'm essentially going for the Ducati Monster look, with short/stubby tail, and a wide front deflector. The side covers would be kawi based..I've got some '83 550 side covers, but the don't quite fit. I could also just make brackets to mount them though, so I may not do the side covers.

Very nice work on the front fairing..Frankly I can't see what you've done, which is a sign of awesome work, but I know that they look different.
