After quite a few years, just sitting in limbo, I finaly started work on my KZ1300A1. I want to do about a 90% rework on this bike with some high performance goodies. I rebuilt the engine at about 12000 miles because of a bad lower con-rod bearing which destroyed the crankshaft and #6 rod. I believe that I can leave the crank case intact and just rework the top end. I have 3 sets of heads and cylinders for the engine to work with, so I do not have to worry about screwups. I plan on sending out the cams to have them hard welded and reground with a bit more UMF I plan on punching out the jugs to somewhere betewwn 1400 and 1500, and ofcorse a new paint job. I am going to install a cut down 1985GPz fairing to the bars and not to the frame. I will try to post pictures as I go along. I would like to have this project finished before the end of the next riding season. Wish me luck.

Doesn't the 1300 have 6 cylinders? If so good look on that! It could be the biggest displacement Kz I really know of.

To help you on your way a little bit of info I've picked up thru the years....use Kz650 pistons for overbore sizes. Noone makes a "piston kit" but supposedly Kz650 pistons work, and you'll have a couple spares if you buy to complete sets. Also, go get a cam chain tensioner from a 90-01 ZX11C/D model. Their stock tensioner is WAYYY better than a stock 1300 tensioner. And somewhere there is a CBX site that sells a set of Accel coils (three coils and necessary hardware) that you can get for decent $$. You will probably also want to get a small electric fuel pump from another model of motorcycle and install it. That will help cure some cold start and fuel starvation problems.

Well I did some math. I was counting on using Wisco 2mm oversize KZ650 pistens which would bring it to about a 1390. This would add about 15HP with the increased compression and I can keep the stock sleaves with amout 60thou left in the scirts. with the work and parts this 15HP would cost about a Grand. If i decide to go with the oversize CB750 Pistens it would take the engine to about a 1430 and add about another 7HP over the previous. However I would have to get custom sleeves which would be another $560 and have to deal with boaring out the lower part of the water jaket and inlarging the O ring pockets. This total would be another additional Grand. I do not think that 7HP is worth a Grand when I can get a set of potent cams for about $650 and get about another 17HP out of those. And if push comes to shove, I made a real nice Nitrometan injection system which would add a nice punch in a pinch. I think that this math makes a lot more sense,(and less Dolars).

Here are the first pictures. I have finaly cut down a LATE GPz Fairing to fit the bars, and have just enough tank clearance. I plan on doing some glas work on it to fill some space in front of the bars and make a small spoiler at the bottem. Any IDEAS are welcome!

With a bit of reaserch and reading I have decided on the Dynatech DC1-2 coils for this project. They are a 3 Ohm coil and will work well on any Kaw. They are also a very small package and should fit in the existing space.

I have made the decision to build TWO complete motors for this bike. One I will build with the Wisco custom pistens to make a 1390 and the other with 66mm KZ750 pistens to make a 1502. I have all the parts necessary to do this job, with the exeption of the new custom liners for the 1500 project, which should cost about $100 each. I have been on the web looking for parts to doo these jobs, since my last post and have been very lucky. I have also done some more work on the fairing, and some of the other body parts. I will take pictures on friday and post them.
