It’s a subjective question, if you have reasonable mechanical skills it should be achievable in a day. Seems like an extreme solution to an unknown issue??

Why would you think you would need to swap out the engine for some cam chain noise? They all make "cam chain" noise to some extent! it probably needs a simple adjustment.

I know at least one guy on this forum that has over 80K miles on his KZ650, and I don't think he has put a cam chain in it.

Have the dude do a compression test on it when you go to look at it, it only takes 10 minutes (if your any good) you only have to unscrew 4 plugs. With a cold engine look for +130 PSI minimum.

I would never buy a running "anything" without doing a compression test unless it was free.

An acquaintance of mine owns a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 with over 80,000 miles on it. The bike still runs great and has plenty of power.

This Kaw 700 looks great and in excellent shape, and the price is very reasonable.

I could be wrong, as I'm not an expert on that exact motorcycle, but for sure the paint has be redone, and I don't believe the guages are even remotely close to original to the 700cc model, so there is no telling what the miles may be in truth. A KZ650/700/750 at 40,000 miles will have multiple oil leaks if not repaired from the multiple orings used everywhere. If repaired they will return after some time. I don't mean to criticize, just saying my opinion and experience. The cam chain is not a big problem, but the idler roller sprockets have rubber centers that go away to dust and the tensioner is not the best. I assume it has the single row chain like a KZ650.
Looks good though for $1000, but beware of the guys that can put paint and polish on everything and make it look good, but hidden below is actually unknown.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

a zn700 would have a HyVo cam chain w slipper guides, not rollers. a potential nuissance is low production numbers, so sourcing parts might be troublesome.

I think all the Kawasaki 700 models were only built for one year (1984) to get around the government tariffs put on 750cc and larger imports.

Aside from pistons and jetting is there any other difference to the 750 of a similar age ??
EDIT: cam chain etc is the same as ZX750, Zephyr 750 etc (44 models)
