'77 KZ1075 long chop I built in '93
14 Feb 2023 05:34
Hello all, don't know why I never joined earlier. I am in northern Canada (100 miles from Alaska) and a chopper guy, old school long chops from the '70s kinda choppers.
I had the full fleet of the early big Zs all at the same time years ago; '73, 74 & '75 Z-1, KZ900 and the '77 KZ1000.
I built my chop in '93 with a '77 KZ1000 engine, Santee softail frame, Jammer +18 springer, built the motor in motorcycle college - swapped KZ1000 crank for the Z-1 crank, bored cylinders for a wiseco 1075,10.5:1 kit, and had fun - won a first place trophy at the World of Wheels ISCA show in Calgary in '93, then rode it hard and fast on these rough northern roads they call highways... still got it.
Lookin' to learn and share info.

I've seen those "softail" frames in my old "Easyrider magazines of the '70s and have wondered how well they worked. I'm guessing it was softer than a hardtail.
I don't have a plan and I'm sticken' to it! '77 KZ 650 / 750 GPz custom project in progress

Post pics he says...
Tell me how, only have them saved on my old clunker laptop.
I posted a couple pics in response to a thread on Chopcult forum; in post #2, 4 & 5 are a couple pics of my Santee chop, and one of my old Amen Savior chop with a '75 Z-1 1013 engine; that Z-1 Amen chop was my intro into the big Zs, in 1982.:

Reminds me of Miller's HondaDavidson. He had a girder front end with a inverted shock, 5 gal. Harley tank with speedo, soft tail frame, CB 750 engine bored to 1015 (had Dennis build up around the barrels so it wouldn't weep oil), hot street cam, Del Orto carbs, 4/2 short pipes, Jardine baffles, King and Queen seat with fork sissy bar. That red thing would MOVE.
He would pull on me until near redline then I'd start to catch up.
He said he always had trouble with the Z's so I must be missing something. Got some 1X Andrews cams and the next time we met I pulled on him.
He said "You're learning). He sold me the 33's I have now for $100 and it took me some time to dial them in. I went to look him up but found out he'd died of brain cancer a few years back. No more Millerized Motors and a old friend.
Damn I'd like to run into him again with the way my bike is now but it wasn't meant to be.
The fat boy tank looked good on his bike and I think it would look good on yours.
SHT I'd like to have 5 gallons too.
Steve

Hey Shank,... you got a build thread here for that awesome rebuild of what I thought was already an awesome trike when you got it. Did your wife end up riding it to school? Hope all is well.
