Hello,
I made a little headway but I am slow as I want to get any used parts I have in as good a condition as my (limited) skills allow. For example I took near a week (putting in about 3 hours per day) to remove a non-correct year 1976 Number 1 pipe from my Z1, polish and prepare it for sale. Took 2 days to "prepare" and fish oil my NOS exhaust for 1980 Z1 Classic. "a week" to clean and make ready my seat for 1977 KZ1000. As far as actual progress, I am staring at the KZ1000 engine sprocket pondering how to remove it. The Kawasaki Parts and Service Manual shows how on Page 62 using special tool PN 57001-118, but of course I do not have that. It should be torqued up to around 90 ft/lbs according to the manual, but I think I can get it off eventually. Need to get the sprocket off so I can remove the chain and swing-arm and get all to the powder coater.
Is that what would be considered headway?

To loosen the front sprocket nut put the engine in 3rd. gear and step on the rear brake pedal, (a second person), to use the chain as blocking tool. I never need any special tools for this task.

Hello Rico,
I'd be interested in hearing about early KZR history. Might be able to make it into an article.
