'82 KZ750N-1 Spectre Intro; wheres waldo?

Hello, I picked up this bike for $100 and a box of 9mm ammo. Started was unbolted and connections were all corroded. Carb purged fuel from overflow. This bike is fun to work on!

I found a gear in my oil bucket after working on the thing for a few days; anybody recognize this gear? Maybe it is not from the KZ? Thanks

Looks like Dave's right. Did it come out of the drain plug? I don't see how it would but who knows. Better drop the pan.

I drained the oil... looked surprisingly well for 10 years+ old. I can't imagine that gear could fit through the drain? but the thickness of the gear itself appears 1/2 or 1/3 as thick as seen in the video (SWest). 2 similar gears shown? I looked at oil pump parts fiche and did not recognize the gear there. I did refurbish the front brakes, but i don't think it is speedo or anything up front?
Thanks btw this place is awesome. Vacuum switch went byebye thanks to a great detailed thread I stumbled on. The yellow hurts my eyes and is almost gone. Liime green could be in its future!

Drop the pan... lol I'll buy you the plane ticket and beer; please bring a bike lift

You should be able to remove the pan without a lift or lying flat on your back.
Drain the oil, remove the oil filter assembly and the fuel tank. Put some padding on the floor and gently put the bike on its side.
Otherwise, you can pull the engine.

Could you post a pic of the gear with a ruler or something for size reference?

How many teeth? guessing 12 or 13. I did a quick look in the diagrams but didn't see anything that jumped out at me.

That certainly does look like an oil pump gear from one of the liter bikes (900-1100cc). As far as I know, none of the 750 or smaller engines used that style pump.

Thanks for the help guys. I still haven't figured out where the gear goes.
But I made progress cleaning up the wiring. Relays, rec/regulators, flashers, etc all mount on the back side. Now time to find exhaust and pods.
