Hi
I'm from France and a proud owner of a '80 kz1000st. It had been waiting for years in the middle of nowhere in the south of France until I got it from my father in law.
After many months working on it it is now almost running as good as new.
I've been lurking there for weeks gathering informations on how to fix it and thought it would be nice to say hello and thanks !
I also own a '73 super beetle, a '72 vw bus and my "modern car" is a '92 Peugeot 205.

Hi all,
I finally managed to get the motor, coils and carbs working reliably but I still had some electrical issues with the fuse box, the main fuse kept blowing and the fuse box was hot as soon as I started the bike. So I decided to have a deeper look and I immediately found what was wrong, I think the picture speaks for itself:



You can't see it on the picture but the plastic was melted around the fuse holding pins and the cables had a ton of verdigris several centimeters into the sheath. Given the very bad shape of the fuse box I thought it would be safer to bypass it so I bought some nice waterproof ATC blade fuse holders and soldered them in place of the original box:



I put some heatshrink tubes with the same color as the original cables close to the fuse holders in order to be able to tell them apart easily and keep something coherent with the original wiring diagram. As I hate to make irreversible modifications I kept the original fuse box and I use it to store spare blade fuses. I have yet to find a way to hold the cables safely but nonetheless it's working way better than before, I have 7 amps going through the main fuse motor running and headlight on, it's not hot at all anymore and that's quite far from the 20 amps max the fuse can withstand.

I had the same problem. After cleaning it over and over I finally got a 30 amp fuse block to use as the main. That left a slot for my cigarette lighter that doubles as a accessory port for my air pump and USB adapters.

Actually I saw your post about your 30 amp fuse while searching through the forum for possible explanations about my fuse box getting so hot. At first I was going to bypass only the main fuse but when I saw how bad the wiring was I had no choice but to rewire anything. Furthermore these blade fuses are much easier to find if you break down in the middle of nowhere.

I don't know much about this fairing, a guy here who also owns a ST told me it was called "stratale" but I don't know if it's the manufacturer name or the model name.

Hi,
I couldn't ride for the last two months but that was for a good reason, my seat was in a bad shape since I got the bike, hopefully a friend of mine is a very talented saddler* and he performed his magic tricks on my seat, here is the result:
