First Time Rider, Big Time Bike - Howdy
10 Jan 2017 22:08
Hey everyone,
Now that I got approved I just wanted to drop a quick hello from down in North Carolina. Got me a shiny new (to me) 82 Kawasaki KZ1000LTD. First bike I've ever owned, got it from my dad as a college graduation present and looking forward to hitting the road soon. He had almost the same model, only a 1980 as his first bike, so there is a decent amount of KZ sentimental value in our family. Hopefully, with one turn signal relay in the mail and a few hours of tinkering it should be street legal by the time the ice thaws.
Looking forward to being a member of this site, and from learning from those who actually know what they're talking about.
Thanks!

First, you might get a cheap dirt bike and learn to ride in the snow........a KZ1000 is a hell of a bike to learn on. That being said, welcome and good riding! There is a lot of good info here.
I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

Don't worry, I won't be riding her in the snow. I live pretty out there, so I'll be waiting for the weather to warm up so I can take a Basic Rider Course first. Also not my first bike, just first *real* bike so I'm hoping the transition won't be too rough!

Welcome. Nice bike. I'd get a set of engine guards. Good place for some foot rests for those long trips and insurance in case you drop it. Everyone does at least once.
