New member saying hello.
22 Oct 2016 18:34
Hello All,
After some searching around the interwebs I found this website and it looks like an amazing resource for all things KZ related.
I just picked up a '79 KZ1000 ST from eBay this past June. It was an 'accidental' purchase where I put a bid down thinking I would get outbid immediately and ended up winning. It was in Upstate NY and I lived in Wisconsin at the time but was in the middle of packing for a move back home to California. To say that it was a bad time to be buying a new (to me) motorcycle is an understatement. I had to drive to pick it up but ended up shipping it from WI to CA and after all the transit time and storage time and time in between permanent addresses I've finally been able to ride it quite a bit lately. It's a good thing riding season never ends here in sunny Southern California.
I have been amazed at how smooth and powerful it is and how well it handles, although riding it has taken a lot of getting used to since the only motorcycle I've been riding in the past 7 years is a Triumph Bonneville.
At any rate, I have lots of questions to post in their respective places and look forward to anything I can learn and hopefully contribute.

Welcome aboard! Nice job getting such a good looking KZ. I think it is the perfect bike for sport touring 1980s style.

Welcome to our little corner of Internet motorcycle madness.
That's a nice find! Seldom see the factory-dressed Z-bikes..., or were they dealer options?

I'm not exactly sure about the fairing option. I know you could have the fairing mounted at the dealer. The guy I bought the bike off of swore it was 'factory original' but when I got the bike home and looked closer the pin striping on the bags don't match each other and only one of them matches the bike. Sooo....

The bags and fairing were available as factory accessories and the dealer had the option of presenting a motorcycle fully equipped...or not. Yours sounds like perhaps one bag was replaced at a later date. The bags/fairing should be manufactured by Vetter.

Yucca Valley. The high desert is quite a bit different from Wisconsin.
I'm lucky it was in Buffalo when I bought it. I was able to pitch it to my wife as 'A trip to Niagara Falls, haven't you always wanted to go to Canada!?'
