1978 KZ1000 C1 Police
12 Oct 2016 13:26
New to this site and I love it. Great pics and discussions and ideas. Very cool seeing everyone's projects. I recently purchased a 1978 C1 Police motorcycle after searching for about 20 years! Found it in a guys basement where it had been sitting since 1986. He bought it brand new and it never saw police duty. So all the police wiring was tucked away and still looked brand new as it had no police equipment ever put on it. And only 27000 original miles on it! Being a huge fan of the tv show CHiPs as a kid I always wanted that kawaski bike. And now I finally have it restored and on the road. I will do a complete restore down the road, but for now I want to enjoy it and ride it. Ive been riding bikes my whole life and this is by far the most comfortable bike I've ever been on. Take care everybody.

Very nice! Definitely would keep that original, plenty of Ps around but not many Cs.

Beautiful bike! One of the nicest 1000 police I have seen. A little polishing of the cases and the bike is bike show ready.

Paunch and John would be proud to be seen on that thing. Very nice find. There's a 76 KZ900P in the Smithsonian. (

) The only problem riding a bike like that is everyone will be slamming on their brakes when they see you in the rear view mirror. There's an old Black &White Ford Crown Vic I see around here. I guess the guy got tired of everyone slowing down to the speed limit when every he was behind them. He painted "NOT A COP" in big reverse letters (reads normal in a mirror) across the front!

Ha
Pretty soon municipalities will be using that strategy on their cop cars to get more revenue!

Finally got the police baton mounted to the saddlebag. Wasn't easy finding brackets for this.

Very Nice. And you are right about them being comfortable. And yes, the cop bike curse is real...
At Barber last year I got a chance to talk to Richard Backus of Motorcycle Classics magazine. I suggested they feature the KZP in the "Future Classics" section of the mag due to their icon status and versatility. He seemed to like the idea...
