Returning KZ Fan
26 Apr 2016 17:55
Hello All,
My name is Quinn.
I am a Mechanical Engineer by day and also a fanatic of classic motorbikes and cars (80s BMWs anyone?!). I used to be a forum member some years ago as a teen when I was working on a 1 owner Luminous Burnt Red '78 KZ650 I pulled from a barn. I always loved that bike. Unfortunately, it got sidelined due to an exhaust that had seen better days, only to be forgotten about among the other bikes and cars begging for attention.
Happily enough, the bike is still around and I finally have the time to show it the attention it deserves! I was always a fan of how encouraging and helpful this forum community was, and knew I had to come back.
Over the next few months I hope to bring this bike back to life and tweak it to my liking with the help of you all. And I hope to share some of my insight along the way; as well as some media.
I will be sure to get pictures up once I have the bike around, but you all know what it looks like. Until then, cheers!
Here is a rundown of some of what I have planned in the short term:
- Determine state of charging system (I replaced rec/reg. way back when) - I have a CSR I could pillage for a single state system if need be
- Fit Delkevic SS 4-1 header finished with Cone Engineering 18" Straight-Core muffler
- Determine suitable jetting and air intake configuration to pair with back pressure changes (any thoughts?)
- Rear fender eliminator
- Custom seat pan to transition better into the rear duckbill
- Plus a whole lot more bouncing in my head...
