1977 KZ Deluxe - Only 2,100 miles

Hello the Forum,

Just had delivered by uShip (great service) a Deluxe saw on eBay that was only set for a 3 day bid cycle so I think went unnoticed as was the only bidder and started low. Bike is in 99% new condition with only 2,100 miles. The tank has a ding and the panniers have a few minor scrathches. I am going to have resprayed with OEM paint and stripes by Precision Painting . Talked with Craig and he is the real deal. Not cheap but will be worth the investment at least for me. The rest of the bike does not have a mark on it. Hopefully will be ready for spring :)

She's a beauty!
Surprising how few KZ400s there are around. I've been to Barber 5X and saw the first one just this year besides my own.

Nice score. Contrary to most folks, I like the looks of a full touring KZ400.

Just a reminder that a bike like that will need a lot of maintenance before it's safe for the road. The miles may be low but the rubber parts like carb O-rings, brake lines, tires, carb boots, etc are all 40 years old now. Be sure to go through the entire bike and do all the various maintenance tasks so you can preserve that thing in all it's glory!

Agreed and am well aware as restored a 76 KZ400 to 'as new' condition, see pic. The carb boots were like paper mache, took 2 months before found NOS replacements. However, and thankfully, this bike was stored in a climate controlled warehouse with dozens of other bikes as part of a collection, or so the story goes I was told. Anyway, the rubber is like new and the owner ran the bike a few miles every ther month to keep the seal lubed. But only went for a 1st ride today and do see an oil sweat around the head gasket. At least those are easy to get :)

That's normal for it's age.

I know these are not everyone's cup-of-tea but man, those bikes are good looking.
Not sure about using one as a touring bike. I rode my 400 a few times on the freeway and it was not a fun experience.
bmacneil, I have your bikes uglier twin :)

I rode my 350 along side Z1's, Harleys, Triumphs, just about everything. That 400 looks like it would too.
