Hello from MA
15 Jan 2016 01:42
Hi, I am looking forward to becoming more familiar with the KZ world!
I am on the hunt for an early KZ650. I have always loved look of the blue spoked version and that will be my preference.
I have some garage skills and I am not afraid of a project bike. With that said, a road ready example will also be considered.
OK, I am going to dig into some threads here, as time permits and do some learning.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard! There is a large group of 650 enthusiasts on this site, and there is a great deal of information to be had. Be sure to check out the file base, too.
As you find possible candidates, don't be bashful about posting pictures and asking questions here before you buy. As a first project, it is probably best to buy a complete, running machine with a clear title.
You will need relatively few specialty tools. Among the more important will be a genuine Kawasaki Factory Servive Manual for the specific year and model you buy. They come up on eBay now and then, and you may also be able to find a PDF version. You will also need a good set of JIS screwdrivers, or suitably modified Phllips. All those screws that look like Phillips are not, and can be damaged by the wrong tool. Two torque wrenches - one in inch-pounds, one in foot- pounds. A carburetor synchronizing tool. Morgan makes a good, pricey one.
Be warned, the folks here are addicted to pictures.

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Thanks for the Welcomes!
TexasKZ; Thanks for the recommendations. I have done some restorations and have a nice set of JIS SD'S, torque wrenches and a morgan!
However, this will be my first Kawasaki.
Swest: Thanks! I will definitely stay away from anything that has been hacked up.....that is certainly not what I like to do or own.
Proxy: I got you! We have exchanged a couple of emails over the past two days.......I am thinking............ I am actually meeting someone in Providence in the morning at 8:00 am for an unrelated motorcycle transaction. It is suppose to be a crappy morning but if you are going to be around, maybe we can set something up.

Aha! Fancy meeting you here! This place is great. My father and my uncle both were members here. Good luck with your search. I won't be available this weekend unfortunately. If you look at my picture you will see the green bike and my red one I sold last year. It was the one you are looking for. Completely stock except for electronic ignition and 10,000 original miles. Real nice but I still like the green one better.

Welcome Vmass.
Good luck with the hunt for a KZ.
Spoked model kz650s were the B models.
They came stock in blue a few years.
Ed's kz650 is a C model, with the cast wheels.

Awesome ^^^^^ Thank you.
If the owners of those two bikes would like to send me a PM stating where I can pick them up and how much money I need to bring, I would appreciate it!
