New from Austin, TX was created by freeriders98
Hello everyone!! New guy here from Austin, TX. I am primarily a dirt biker but have commuted on street bikes on and off for the last 10 years. I've got a 2002 KX250 as my current woods weapon!!!

So why am I on a KZ forum, well I'll tell you!

I recently asked on a local motorcycle forum if anyone had a steel frame laying around for free that they just wanted gone. I wanted to use it as the base of a coffee table I wanted to build. I got a couple offers, but everything was to far away to justify making a drive for it. Then a guy sent me a PM and said he had a 90% complete 1975 KZ400 with the title that I could have, if I took the whole bike. I figured it was 90% complete but a basket case in buckets that had been left outside for years.

He confirmed that it was in fact assembled and missing some side covers and other misc. parts. So I told him I would come get it. I hooked up to the trailer and made the 45 minute drive to his house. And there she was!!! It was last registered in 2002, then sat. It was given to him and it sat in his garage. So it has sat in a garage for the last 13 yrs and looks to be in overall fantastic shape. It is missing a front brake MC/lever assembly, plug wires and some side panels. Kicked it over and pistons move freely and seems to have good compression.

I have been wanting to build a cafe racer for 5+ years now. But anything I found was either a nightmare of a basket case and still $500 or $2500 for a stock running bike...So for this to fall in my lap...I am excited to say the least!!!!!

Too nice to hack up IMO.
I'd fix it up, sell it and buy what you want.

Yeah we'll see. First I want to get it running before I do anything. Once I have it in running condition we'll see what I want to do with it.

Welcome to the asylum ;)

The 400 twins are surprisingly (to me at least) fun to ride. With some suspension and tire upgrades, it will be a blast on the Leaky loop.

I agree with Steve, it looks too nice to hack up, but each to their own.

As for cutting up I can't make any promises...

I need to get a compression tester and see how the compression looks. then round up a coil and plug wires. I pulled the carbs and they are absolutely gross!!!! Looks like molasses in the float bowl. I was wanting to go to a single carb anyways so I ma not even mess with them and go with a single Mikuni VM34.

I'd clean them. Enough to do now. What makes you think you need new coils? Pics? I got a 550 with puke in the bowls. No problem.
