Hello fellow Kz fans. My name is Henry and I have recently come across an opportunity to purchase a 1976 Kz900. I am a bike mechanic by hobby but have limited experience with these vintage bikes. From what I was told this was an old drag bike that has now been rebuilt for street use. It is now an 1150 or 1175 I believe, has an undercut transmission, bigger cam, and the swingarm is not wide but is not stock from what i can tell. Overall cool bike with what seems to be alot of mods. Guy was a big Kz nut and has had the bike for 25+ years.

Question here is what is the bike worth ballpark? Also what things do I need to lookout for? I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed in a previous thread but my time is limited and I am planning on getting the bike today.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

So which is it? 1150 or 1175? If it is that big, it can run hotter than normal. Before you buy get more info and pics.

Bike is in ok condition for a 76. Has an aftermarket paint job from the 70s. Quite a few chips and paint crack because it was a lacquer paint. It runs well and i rode it around, didn't seem to get hot.

The bike looks really clean in the pics but in person has quite a few flaws. I kinda like the flaws because its from the 70s and gives it character. It is also missing the turn signals and things like that, the lights on the instrument panel do not function. But since its a vintage buke and has antique plates i can still ride it daily. Has a small oil leak that seems to spit a few drops after ran but then stops shortly after. Sounds great with that Kerker exhaust but it definitely needs a carb sync because it farts a little while accelerating. But idles ok and goes through the gears fine.

Clutch is a little hard to squeez.. but thats compared to my Hayabusa whis is a newer bike. Not sure if thats normal or due to the undercut trans?

As far as price.. thats what im wondering? What is a good price to pay for it considering the things it needs.

Do you know what carbs are on it? I don't think he'd be using the stock 26 mm. carbs with an 1150-1175 motor, he probably has had some porting done to the head & maybe some oversized cams, was the trans undercut, if he has heavy duty springs in the clutch, that could make the clutch lever more stiff ? all those things have to be taken into consideration ,
It looks nice in the picture though
